I love doing this, Nolan! I had to dig deep, but I found a piece that is only one shy of ATB. And what surprises me is that it didn't already achieve it. We are all, I think, under the surface, wanting to reach for the trophy, for first place, to be recognized for who we truly are. Others have walked away with the prize who were less worthy. Anyway, you'll always have me in your audience, holding my lit Zippo aloft.

Jay, I cannot thank you enough. For me there is no bigger thrill than to learn that someone you admire, also likes what you do. From the very bottom of my heart to the absolute top of it, I thank you.

What a perfect poem for this contest! I love it and wish you all the best in the contest. And you gloat? You have too much humility in your heart and a graciousness that is such a rare quality to have. And lucky me that I am blessed to have a winner like you as a friend. Awesome poem and as far as I an concerned, this Minute poem is so deserving, so get ready for that virtual trophy.

You are far too kind. I love having a champion on my side to sing my underserved song of praise. Thank you my dear friend.

LOL, oh, go ahead and gloat a little, maybe a lot! This is a very fun entry for this contest, best wishes for the win! You wrote a nice poem that takes me back to school days and ends with enough humor to make me laugh in old age. Well-done. Terry.

Thank you more than I have the words to express. I was totally outside my comfort zone on this one. I went back and forth and round and round trying to deal with all the suggested changes to make the poem conform to the stated rules. I had to finally stop accepting suggestions, and stand pat with the poem as it stood in that final moment.

This minute poem, Winner's Touch, reminds us that we can be anything we are motivated enough to pursue. If you can see it, you can be it. A great mentor is the magic bullet as well.

Wow Bill. I had no idea that you could be so eloquent. You frighten me. I had momentarily forgotten that books can sometime have misleading covers. Until you open them up and taker a good and careful look inside, you might be missing something important. I appreciate you my brother. Even if you are a Marine. Hoorah!!!!!

I love the minute format, and you have done it justice, IMHO. I especially liked the ending line in your final stanza -- it makes me smile -- in fact, I'll be smiling all morning.

Best of luck in the contest!

I think everyone wants to win. Your poetic ode to winning was quite captivating. The verse flowed nicely and was playful enough to keep the reader feeling a bit less guilty wanting the big win. Nice job.

Since I'm not a poet, I had to read the requirements of a Minute Poem. When I read your poem, I see you hit all the markers, which requires creativity and thought. I love the subject of your poem. It expresses the feelings of every writer who has ever entered a contest on this site. I wish you the best. This may be your time.
