I like the tone of this poem. Giving the reader pause to reflect upon what may have been depending on choices made. The rhyming sings, and the images are strong. One can feel the farmer's wistfulness as he watches the vee in the sky and thinks about what might have been.

First, good luck with the rhyming contest. I truly enjoyed both the rhyme and the sentiment behind your words.
The last stanza sums it up brilliantly. It is now too late to travel and be free.

Best wishes,
Mary

This poem is excellent in every respect--skillfully written (with good rhyme, meter, and flow), moving, and so meaningful. I feel sure we ALL have wanted at some point to be as free as the birds! I'm from Mississippi; we receive many of these visitors.

-Very nice artwork and presentation.
-You did a good job with the poem.
-A good topic, effective imagery, and rhyme
as you think about the flocks of geese who migrate each year.
-I like the personification in the second verse hearing the geese
call to "Farmer Friend." Thanks for including Delaware; I grew up there!
-Good description of all the farming that's been done, and
how you're "yoked to farming chores."
-A very good closing verse with a sense of melancholy over a "choice
made long ago."
-A very good entry; good luck!!

An excellent poem, and I like the theme. While there is regret at not being free to leave at will, I am sure there is satisfaction in being at one with the land and the farming lifestyle. A very well-written poem. Best wishes for the contest.

Ciao!

I would love to be able to fly even just for a day.
Be able to soar high and then nosedive.

To see birds set course for warmer clime is always an emotional event .. where I live, soon the swallows will gather and then sadly , I will wake up at dawn one morn and they will be all gone.

To travel over different lands to us seems freedom at its best but the truth is bird migration is a journey full of dangers : bad weather, hungry predators , hazard skyscrapers , exhaustion , starvation .

I enjoyed your autumn poem and love the art choice.

Thank you so much for sharing my poem, tempeste. Years ago when I was a boy my family went to Capistrano just as the swallows were leaving. What a sight! And you are so right about the birds? journey being full of dangers.

The author's words made me think of when I see the geese flying in
formation. I always wonder where they are going. The author's poem is
expressed well with details of a Farmer's life. The poem flows and connects well. The artwork is awesome! Have a great weekend!....Maria

That fall call of geese in the sky does inspire a "vagrant's wistful urge." But a farmer is committed to the land and livestock so one's occupation dictates if we can be "snowbirds" or not. Loved that great description of longing and also regret because of duty. Best wishes in the contest!

Fortunately we've been able to travel much, the world is a fascinating place, and if one doesn't a citizen of the world then one hasn't really travelled, one has to open one's mind, a closed parochial mind won't cut it. This is beautifully written my friend, I love it, blessings, Roy
