I know this is billed as non-fiction but are you trying to pull one over on us with (F)Red Astair?

P2, S7: (match stick) should be (matchstick) One word.
P9, S2: Insert (he) between (how) and (spent)

After ***
P5, S2: (well worn) should be (well-worn) Hyphen

You keep some pretty "I don't know" company Terry. He died in his motorcycle accident and then lived another year to talk about it, amazing.

Great tales.

Always the twist at the end! I look forward to it. Good story with balance between the 'two' Rays --the professional one and the 'evil' twin - so to speak. Good character building, scenes are clear and the reader feels a part of the story. Excellent piece.

girl's - should be girls' - I think.

What an amazing man! You must have several memories of times that he shared with you. The main one being when you met your wife! I really enjoyed reading this and the wild ways of your friend, I couldn't help but laugh that he'd thumped a policeman for disturbing his nights sleep. I'm thinking the man who was looking for Sheila reported him. Lol. Well done, Terry, you wrote this beautifully! :)) Sandra xx

Terry,

You have known such interesting people! And for all us old-timers, Red Adair is legendary. I remember hearing about how it would take "ten years" to extinguish the oil well fires in Iraq. (More Chicken Little.) then how Adair dispatched them all in a matter of months. Great stories about jail and GUNS!

Sue

Ray's boss told Dubai's Minister of Oil Operations -- Why not name Adair? It has more weight than "boss."

This was my first time riding in a Vette, -- Better as "that was"

A few minutes later, we are in an upscale bar. The attractive barmaid says, "Hello, Ray, long time no time." She brings the first round. I pay. -- You jumped tense.

Most welcome, Terry. I can't believe how many important and interesting people you have known.

A big part of that was working the first twelve years of my employment days in the non-profit field.

Real or fiction. It doesn't matter. If it isn't it may very well be in the recesses of your mind which I find delightfully wholesome and very masculine normally. At seventy-five I have never been in a fight though I have pulled a few friends apart. Well done.

What a great story to read. I gave you a six just for reminding me of my favorite John Wayne movie. My other favorite is Hatari. I can't remember the man's name that played Ray's part in the movie, but I can see his face. Have a great Sunday. Shirley

WOW!!! Now THAT is an over-the-top human being for SURE!! (Of course he would be from Texas, right?!)

I loved it all, but my favorite part was when you managed to get him off the idea of going home for guns by offering to buy a round of drinks! Good fast thinking, Terry!! Definitely saved YOU a night in jail...or the Emergency Room...

The one suggestion I would make here, writer to writer, is to count how many times you use the word "Ray." After a while, it started to feel like when a child says, "Mommy. Mommy. Mommy. Mommy." It could be supplanted by fun descriptions "the big man," "Mr. Defying All Odds," "The One Who Could Not Be Corraled"...and, of course, there's always "he."

But, definitely a FABULOUS read about a fabulous character, who was an actual person.

Sure. I hope I didn't overstep, Terry. I never want to come across as a know-it-all, but I also figure that, if the situation were reversed, I'd want you to tell me.

Now I feel like I have met Ray before. Maybe at a different story somewhere or is it just because you have the most fascinating friends? Yet, I feel like I've met Jean before too. So I pay close attention to your characters, which some really are characters but all fascinating. So I never fall asleep during your awesome stories, yet I fall asleep at my own. Anyway, I loved Ray, but why wouldn't I, he drove a corvette. After all, I agreed to go out with Glen in the first place because I loved his car. He had a 69 Roadrunner and it was known as the fastest car in our 3 county area so everyone wanted to race him and I found it exciting. Yes I was once shallow like that. I found your story amazing but you always leave me wanting more. So thanks my dear friend, until the next time when I'll be back to enjoy some more awesome writing!

Debi, thank you for reading, this is only story about Ray. Jean was mentioned briefly in story about our wedding. You take of yourself, and better well. Terry.

Lol, I must be thinking of your friend who always picked up the tab?
Just wondering if you have ever interviewed Tom?
I posted a silly poem for him and someone thought you had. And if not, maybe you'd like to. You really do deserve that honor!

Isn't there a contest for "Colourful character"? This guy was one very colourful character, for sure! You could have entered this. Check the name: Shiela or Shelia? Not consistent. Otherwise am interesting and fun read.

This was as always now a great story. Wonderful character (I think there's a colourful character event in the creative non fiction club this week. You could have put it in there (wouldn't affect the number of people who read it or anything, so I don't know why I'm saying that. Just the last paragraph was a bit confusing the way it was written. Maybe it should be something like 'had a heart attack while riding... and initially we thought he ha died. However, somehow ... (also was he 76 when he had the accident or the year later?) Kate xx

Thank you for reading. I will take a look at the last paragraph. The doctors said he died while riding his Harley. But when the bike crashed into a ditch, the trauma from the accident started his heart again. He was revived and died a year later. Terry.
