Hi Gypsy Queen,
sorry for my brief absence. At least I can now sit in a chair without too much discomfort... bloody injuries!
Okay, now to this Tanka which seems to relate in a big way to us both.
To think one could inject a message that echoes this much within such a limited syllable count.
The dark presentation compliment every word and intent perfectly.
So I've just read you notes as well. Based on my friend's life? I know it could be my life, and I see and read so much that says it could be so many of us here on site..., that's sad!
For non American fanstorians, kids means children. Kid also refers to a young goat which could also refer to me:)
As always Queen of the short form... this presentation and composition echoes loudly in a very beautiful way.
With our thoughts we create...
the fortitude of spiritual growth.
Kind regards,
James.

James, I'm so happy to hear from you and that your feeling better. Yes, I wrote it for you. You are the friend. I sent you a message to let you know but I had to change the title and picture. I bought a certificate and more pumps than I usually do but nobody was reading it. However, I got a couple of reviews from victims of abuse that really appreciated it.
As always, I am deeply appreciative of your honest and kind review. The stellar six stars rating is icing on the cake.
I heard a couple of English man said, that in England only animals have kids.
Take care of yourself, you hear? You are precious.

I'm off to the remedial therapist tomorrow to get my spine back into alignment. I've hit the
anti-inflammatories this week, to allow the angry to settle.
I notice writers on site steer away from the darkside. they tend to eat up the light and fluffy with a nice dose of religion... but each to their own. I loved the poem, and especially more now 'cause I know who you wrote it for... hmmmm, that makes me feel rather special.
Thank you dear friend. You know I'm a Capricorn which is the sign of the Sea Goat... so the kid thing, that was the young me, and if someone believes only animals have kids, then I'm totally fine with that. I have a lot of animal friends A magic Echidna-Bernie. She so friendly and comes over to me which for these animals is pretty rare. I have my old mate Percy the Possum who comes around most nights for an avocado...he's so cute. My family of magpies who come each morning singing for some food, Macko and Knuckles and their two youngins. Macko follows me into the kitchen to make sure his food is just how he like it. Four Butcher birds who come at different times to get a feed. A family of Water Dragons who have starting to come out of hibernation. Willow, Zippy, Ebbie, Reed... and a few little babies from last year I'm hoping made it through winter. There a heaps of Rainbow Lorikeets in the grevillea tree at present in my front yard... they're a hoot hanging upside down eating the flowers. There is so many animals around that make my life truly enjoyable, it makes my life that much better.
I hope to be back on board soon. I have a lot of damage to my spine that takes a hell of a lot maintenance to keep well... and more ongoing injuries from football, a myriad of surgeries, hard manual labour, a bad attitude, hate... and well a few of my employment positions I had to put my body on the line, so yes, fights. But that was another me, another life. I actually detest confrontation of any type.
Be well, stay safe... health, harmony and happiness always!
Amor, respeto, besitos y abrazos Gypsy Queen.

I always love to read your reviews and responses ... you are such and excellent writer/poet and intuitive soul. Your kindness is well appreciate it. Thank you for sharing with me the reasons why you are in such much pain... they are a lot to bear. My heart breaks thinking about it.
I am a Virgo (the virgin), and in the Chinese horoscope, I am a dog... loyal friend to the end. We have compatible signs, maybe that's why I feel close and comfortable with you. I think you are a rat, if you were born in January 1961 (as your profile shows. But I don't know what day or month, so I'm just guessing.
I love this kind of stuff. My Spirit animal is a wolf.
I love how many animal friends you have. Being good to animals is a sign of kindness... but I already knew that.
The more I learn about where you live, the more I think you live in paradise. I am happy about that, you deserve it.
I also believe in oracles. I use Viking Runes and Tarot cards, it must be the gypsy in me. (*=*) hehehe...
I don't think kid means young animal, I thought that was an English thing.
Take care, my friend.

The author's words are clear, upsetting, dark, descriptive and creative.
I found these words sad and violent. Thank you for putting the National
Domestic Violence Hotline Number in the author's notes. The artwork goes well with the words and theme of this poem. Great poem, Gypsy!

Comment from Thomas Blanks
The poem "Days of Darkness" is about a child who suffered abuse along with his family at the hands of a violent father. Based on the life of the poet's friend, we have to realize that the "Days of Darkness" do not end when the child grows up and gets away from the violent, abusive parent. I had a similar life to the poet's friend. The stolen childhood becomes a lifelong struggle to undo the damage done during the formative years of life, an impossible task. In the end, one can only develop coping mechanisms for anxiety, anger, or other emotions with which they will struggle.

I like your modern Tanka - excellent picture presentation - black and white picture sets the gloomy mood to match the poem - I recognize the story well - mine too - and now at this age - what brought him to that place in life - not excusable because of the pain and suffering it brought to the world around him - but now able to at least understand what brings sick people to a place like that - and feel compassion - was a LONG road to get there! Good job

Kids should never have to witness evil from their fathers or mothers. It can and will have a permanent effect on their well-being and the way they view life. In a few short words you explain that very thoroughly.
Another good one Gypsy.

This is a short but sad commentary on how impactful domestic abuse is on kids. It has a clear message and is written in a font size for all to easily read. I like that scroll thing at the bottom. Do share how to make it.
While the visual is dark and moody, I do not get how it fits the text. I am glad you included the hotline on your poem. you never know who it will help.

Thank you very much for your time and kind review. I'm glad you founded helpful for victims of abuse. I had a reviewer that was a victim of domestic violence
thank me for bringing this subject to the light. Other than that I'm getting few reviews, even with a generous certificate. I think not every body is ready to acknowledge this is part of our world, they rather look the other way...and some just think it's too emotionally dark to read...anyway, I reached that victim of abuse and poets like you with an open mind. Thank you, Sandra.

You are most welcome. I tend to write darker poems and people do pass over them, but I think nothing gets better if not addressed. A lot of times men will not read it because it puts some men in a bad light. Women sometimes will not read them because they are still repressing the abuse from the past. I suggest you read the poem "Runaway" in my folder.

Thank you, Sandra, I read it. It's very powerful and realistic. Well done.
