Mike,
I like the symbolism you always demonstrate in your poems. This work is symbolic too.
You write of words and arts being of your core beliefs.
Words are powerful. Both negative ones and positive ones. It's our decision which ones we'll use toward others or toward ideas.
I like that you state what is not so obvious.
Good luck with this one and all your works,
Blessings,
Cindy

I think is a wonderful expression of faith, as the poet sees with the eye and then stumbles toward the impressions those visuals provide on the screening room of our minds.

I enjoyed your mix of iambic trimeter, tetrameter, and a concluding couplet of pentameter.

Wishing you all the best with the Contest Committee. :))

In my opinion, definitely Six Star worthy - please accept these virtual Six Stars for this stunning irregular, easy rhyming free verse write, as my allocation is completely depleted. I have read some real jewels of late, yours included...

Thank you so much :-). Yes, it's a string week on Fanstory, for sure. I normally avoid the faith-based areas, but I felt a strong need to express my thoughts on belief and this is what came out.

Hi, Mike,
The middle stanzas had a surging feel to them as they connected from one to the other. To me, it felt like the growth of rising creativity and your inspiration to create feeds your higher self. I'm not sure if I'm close with that interpretation, but that's how it reads to me. Loved this one, Mike. The artwork is beautiful and so fitting. Best, JohnC.

Thank you, John. I love to create pulses with meter and structure - running sentences between stanzas and tight rhyme gives that feeling of acceleration then spacing the rhyme and using shorter sentences slows it down. That makes it sound more planned than it is, though - I'm usually led by what the words want to do!

I enjoyed this provocative verse.

Your phraseology is superb and the
vocabulary used is intriguing. I enjoy
learning new words and ways in which
to use them.

I particularly like the fifth paragraph. The
unforced rhymes, and the metre they
create are a wonderful use of language.

I found this an inspiring read, and I appreciate
your author notes, as they give a glimpse into
your personality and what moves you to put
pen to paper.

Thank you :-). I love to play with pace - that fifth stanza feels to me like pushing down the clutch pedal and feeling the car take ownership of its momentum. For a few beats, I'm not controlling it - just seeing what it wants to do!

This is a very descriptive poem, and it is true about writing that it is very different in details. Excellent work! No mistakes found. Interesting. Thank you for sharing! Good luck!

nice meta poem about finding your faith through your writing. well done like the following stanzas the best

to grow my tree upon my back,
an everlasting tome of truth
in rings and branches, epic proof
that words can be a world.

And so, in art, I find a core belief,
a perfect faith expressed in ev'ry leaf.

Thank you, Jake :-). I don't normally touch the faith stuff as mine is not the common interpretation, but I felt the need to express on this occasion. I'm glad you liked it.

The Cambridge Dictionary defines faith as: "Great trust or confidence in something or someone.

I admire that you took this broader view and wrote a thoughtful and moving poem that leaves no one out, who may or may not identify with a particular religion.

Your poem is universal. It does not include, nor preclude that anyone ascribes to a particular set of beliefs.

Rather, it welcomes each of us to consider what we bring to faith, and how we come by that.

Is it this beautiful mystery of words we come here to write and read and share?

It is. It is this interplay of thoughts and observations. It is in respect for one another's religious beliefs or lack thereof.

This is impressively written. I love your middle-to-end rhymes, and your phrasing is masterful.

I'll be thinking of this poem all night.

"words can be a world."

Yes!

I knew you'd understand :-). In many ways, this is the ultimate exercise in sitting on the fence, but you get a good view from the fence.

Fleedleflump,

A write worthy of a Poet Laureate. I loved every word and each stanza is insightful and thought-provoking. You've composed a first class write offering a deeply personal definition of faith. Nature often personifies the miracle of faith in many wondrous ways. I enjoyed reading this awesome poem and look forward to future eye-opening masterpieces written by your hand.

Cheers,

Eugene

Michael, thanks for sharing your beliefs. Maybe you are writing about the Tree of Life; found in the garden of Eden. Fruits forbidden but taken anyway. My faith is a living garden where the birds call and all is well. K xx

Thank you so much :-). It was my hope that this could be read many ways, and without excluding any particular perspective on that ineffable beast we call faith. I'm so glad you liked it!
