There were definitely strange things happening in this little town this night, when the warm winds began to blow. You created some great imagery and emotion in this story, G. And you left me wanting to know more. :)

You're most welcome, G. I was away for a week without much time to spend on a computer. I'm good. :)

Excellent story. Great work.
Your word choices and phrasing were superb. You painted an effective picture.
I hope this is a continuing story, or book. I'd like to read more.
Best wishes.

When I read something this good, I start scrolling up and down to see what contest it had been entered in. You maintained some exceptional tension throughout the wolf scene and developed some cogent images to support the eerie setting. I only questioned one image, below, but it might be easily overridden.

he cleared his throat and spat. It sizzled as it hit the ground. [It's an impactful image, but I don't know about its accuracy. I experience 110 F summers yearly, and I don't know that I've ever heard spit sizzle.]

You've done a marvelous job with the story, G.

Jay

Yep. The spit thing is there to accentuate the heightened, unnatural of the temperature. It may be a little too much. lol Many thanks Jay.

Is this the beginning of a story? I would like to read more. You did an excellent job filling me with tension about the wolf. It had a little bit of the supernatural feel to it, but I couldn't decide if it was. it was a strange occurrence. :) Shirley

Many thanks Shirley. The not sure aspect was intentional whether it's just very hot or something more is at play. G

Good beginning, but not the beginning of something good, eh? I think instead of having the sheriff think the wolf is a dog at first, you should just say the sheriff was confronted by the largest, four-legged creature he had ever seen, and then go on to describe the long snout, hot yellow eyes and glistening jet fur of the wolf. Anyway, got my attention.

Any particular reason for the four star other than wanting to rewrite a description which doesn't fit?

Wow, this was amazing, G. If ever you had me on my tippy toes, you did with this one. Cooper was truly befuddled and confused as he opened the door to his office. He realized that as the storm raged outside, it was just the beginning. Very well done, greatly enjoyed.

This should be a prologue or at least a continuing story G. Well written and chilling to say the least. I found it to be intriguing and left me with many questions. The beginning of what? Was it a forest fire or a visit from the pits of Hell.
Well done. Nancy:)

Really liked this. Your style is easy to read but hard to put down.
I feel like Oliver - please can I have some more??
I hope this is just the beginning of a bigger story. It certainly could/should be.
I expect that the names Wayne and Cooper are doffing a cap to John and Gary of western film fame.
Nice one.

This fictionalized story had a lot of descriptions yet the plot seemed less of the focus and more of a distraction. Cooper wandering around and through the small town appeared distraught but the author gave no clear reason why. I suppose this is how the author wanted to leave it. Us wondering and not knowing about the upcoming storm.
Thanks for allowing me to be honest.

There are important elements in regard to plot in here which may not seem apparent right off. It's more about setting the scene up for the plot to develop later on. It's a different way of looking at the structure.

Always appreciate honesty in a review, Jesse.
    Many thanks

So, the plot develops later on in another story. I guess I see how you set up the scene.
I still have a lot to learn.

The scene that you describe as Cooper walks down the main street had me thinking of the quiet buildup before a cyclone. You create an eerie mood on the street with rhe wolf and the whistle. Great write G.
Cheers
