Whether this story is fact or fiction, it makes no matter. I live in the foothills of the Blue Ridge in Virginia and have experienced gully washers similar to this that have made me cringe.

One thing I've never experienced, possibly because I'm an infrequent visitor to the mountains, at least when it's raining, although I have experienced fog. A vivid description. The images are clear. The metaphors are not trite. The piece flows well. These type of storms hit AZ also. In our monsoons blinding rains fall for usually short periods. Dry low land and streams fill quickly. The tension in this piece is palpable.
