What a sobering poem, Thomas. I believe that more of these awareness pieces need to be written. The adults, in some cases, are worse than the kids. Thank you for sharing.

This poem is vivid, descriptive and real. You have adequately presented exactly what many young people think prior to a fatal accident. Yes. A ticket would have been better. Your specific wording allows the reader to not only read what your are saying, but feel the impact. This work should be printed in all high school and college newspapers. A mature audience could also benefit.

I was so worried for the people in the story from the second I read the title, having that sense of foreboding what this would be about, but at the same time hoping that it wouldn't - you've kept the tension alive until the very end. Really nice piece!

Good work.
We, my wife and I, had occasion to meet another couple. We learned that they'd had two kids. We talked about ours and their daughter. I naively asked, "And your son?"
the wife responded, "Don't text and drive."
Best wishes.

This is well written and is the need of the hour. Cell phones play havoc with our lives. Man invention destined to make our lives easier is now a cause for ending that life...Thank you for writing and posting.

A wonderful free verse, with a strong POV. The setting one of willful people breaking all the traffic laws, running red lights and stop signs, and then sadly causing their own demise through sheer lack of respect for the power of a vehicle.

Good use of metaphor, and I agree that much of the technology mankind has created is being misused, which is really a pity.

Thank you for sharing, Thomas. :))

Amen! Well written on a pet subject of mine. So many killed from lack of attention and breaking the law. We have cameras to catch offenders now, huge fines for those who are caught. It should be law to leave cell phones in the trunk. K xx

I would hope nobody is idiotic enough to think they can use a phone - or any other distraction - while they drive. Really, people should just remember they're wieldng a ton of metal with only seconds between life and death.

Your descriptions of the crash and effects are effective and unsettling.

Wow! Very real and poignant. I have never texted while driving, but for a few years, my brother had that habit, and I can only be glad that our family nagging had it's desired effect and he doesn't do it anymore! Your poem addresses a very serious subject, and it does it very well. Great job!

Thank you for this well-crafted poem. Fantastic Job!

Firm, white pillows of regret smacked us in the face
With a force so vengeful it could have been alive. [Great lines]
