I love how the lines are getting shorter and shorter like his chances are getting less and less likely for survival, but then he makes it.

In the second line, did you really want the word sallied as you have it and not sailed?

Thank you again for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it. Nonet poems have nine lines that are ordered by descending syllables. You start with nine syllables and work down to the last line, which must have one syllable. It gives the poem a triangular shape.
Yes, I meant to use the word "sallied"--it is the past participle of the word 'sally' which can mean an excursion, jaunt, or tour.
Again thank you for this review and the one last one, too.

In my opinion, please accept my virtual Six Stars, since my star chest is empty - a remarkable narration of survival, impossible to believe, but possible to achieve with man's relentless strength and determination. This poem is a reminder of what is possible with human will, smoothly fluid in its free verse presentation and striking imagery...

Oh, I am so delighted to get your virtual six stars--Thank you so much. This is a fictional accounting; however, just maybe, it could be accomplished. The Navy teaches sailors how to turn a pair of trousers or pants into a flotation device.
The longest open water swim without flippers was 139.8 miles by Velijko Rogosic, according to the Guinness World records. It took him 50 hours and 10 minutes to complete that distance.
So yes, someone could swim five hours, even without using a floatation device. Knowledge, determination, and skill would all be helpful factors.

You are very welcome indeed, leather - my best wishes in the contest with this dramatically presented tribute to the human spirit...Eve

The author's words are clear, strong, had a mission, used creativity to
accomplish it, and were descriptive. I found the words filled with
ways to survive a difficult situation. The poem flows and connects well.
The artwork was perfect and compliments the words of this poem.

Thanks for your review, Harmony, and all the stars and compliments.
Next time you go to sea, wear long pants so you can make a flotation device--also, don't drink too much Singapore rum.

Now that would be an epic seagoing experience, always thinking optimistically that you would make it. A beautifully written nonet, perfectly accurate in every way, good luck, blessings Roy

Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum, might have been the reason you went overboard, but as a sailor, once in the Navy, I too was taught how to tie the legs and snap some air into the pants to helping one stay afloat. Well done.

Knowing that you have been a seafarer, I'll admit that the Singapore rum did me in--I was still holding the bottle when I hit the water.
Now, back to reality-- my father was in the Navy, and I read some of his books and manuals. I especially remember reading about clouds. I thought it was fascinating stuff.
Thanks so much for your review and all the stars.

Clouds too?.. That was my rating in the Navy. Aerographer Mate. Weather-guesser. Observation of the tri-level of cloud development, Stratus, Cumulus and Cirrus. Fifty years later, and I still can accurately guess the type and height of cloud bases.

I love clouds and still know the three types, but I never got to the manual on cloud bases. Does what you remember ever come in handy now?

My forecasts surpass Teevee guessers most days. I believe most weather watchers on tv take their forecasts from NOAA

Saved! I'm a true sucker for happy endings. Since, these days there doesn't seem to be that many. I'm also glad to see your name pop up in my inbox for the first time in a couple weeks. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Ric, for the review and all those stars. The space bar on my computer became sticky and cranky. The happy ending is that I now have a new Lenovo laptop, so I'm back at the keyboard.
    Take care.

Hello! I enjoyed this nonet. It's nicely done and tells an entire story within the syllable limitations, which is no easy feat.

Best of luck in the contest.

Cheers,
Erika

This poem was interesting, to say the least. That first line practically sings! I am glad your fisherman made it to shore. Thanks for sharing, and best wishes to you.

I'm glad he made it to shore, too. He was exhausted after swimming for five hours.

Great title and the line above it tells us exactly what is going to happen. I am so glad you used your noggen and floated in your fisherman pants and you were finally saved, what a blessing! Swam five hours, touched the shore, and survived your ordeal.
Good luck with the contest!
Jesse

Hi, Jesse. Thanks for the review and all the stars. You seem to give me chuckles along with your reviews. Yes, one must always wear pants when at sea.

Hooray for the ingenuity and strength of the fisherman to save himself! You told a great story in this nonet form. Technically, they want a nonet that's as perfectly triangular as possible so you might consider changing some words. Best wishes in the contest!

Well, darn, the contest rules did not say a thing about a shape requirement. I worked too hard to get this 'fishy' thing to where it is, so it stays as is. Perhaps, I'll work more at that in the future. Thanks for my stars and your review.
reply by lyenochka on 20-Aug-2022
It's not a requirement but I have heard many comments on shape. 😊
