Typical student! We always skip to the grubby bits in novels... sex is a preoccupation with a lot of teenagers. It also shows how reading can turn some people off with same old, same old.
Your mostly all dialogue-only storytelling feels natural and is crisp and entertaining.

I hope this isn't a true story. It sounds as if teachers are sharing lesson plans if they are all reading the same novels. Well, Orwell's novel has meat to digest, but I don't recall sex. LOL
That would get a student's interest.

Hi Bill,
That's cute. I enjoyed poor Ben's fears of English 12.
You know, it might be nice if the teacher would offer a choice to the class, and go with whichever novel got the most votes. It might make the kids a bit more eager to participate. ~ just a thought. We don't live in Russia.
Ben does a lot of reading! More than I ever did in High School, that's for sure. I did read 1984, though, one year. Not bad, but I loved "White Fang", "Scott of the Antarctic", and Mark Twain's "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" more.
Nicely penned, Bill!
Cheers,
Kimbob

The days of students reading on their own is rare. Reading groups and teacher reading aloud are still necessary for access. Having students vote has always failed for me.

The class was bored already until sex was brought up and piqued their interest.
One thing that confused me was the technical writing when it sound like critical thinking. I remember my technical writing class was full of business correspondence, resumes, etc. I was the only business "professional" in the class, and my professor thought my letters were harsh! Of course, he also taught creative writing.

I didn?t mention all the documents that would be created partially based on characters and situations from novels. That class generated a dozen authentic documents.

This sounds like a true story. The people sound too real to be one of your creative stories. Maybe from your own class? However times have changed if high schools have classes in Consumer Law and specialized Literature like Truman Capote. Cool story though. I can see a teen wanting to lead with sex.

I liked how Ben listed his classes where he read the books over and over. Even a Truman Capote class. hahaha. Yes, if the teacher had mentioned sex first, everyone would have signed up for that book.

One remembers for life the books one is set at school. I still remember the books I was set for my English exam. They were not to everyone's taste. You should have heard some of the comments they engendered.

This is a great Flash Fiction, that I enjoyed very much. Just one question. Why did you call it technical writing. What exactly are they going to do? dissect the mechanics rather than the significance? Kate xx

By the time they get to this course, they have written essays, short stories, poetry, and other creative writing works. The work now will convert what they have read into real world documents such as resumes (both for characters and personal use), petitions (based on situations in story lines and for real time solutions), newspaper articles capturing fictional and factual events, etc.

Interesting. Not what I wuld have expected from the word technical. K

Haha. There is plenty French literature in that subject like "the-diary-of-anas nin." I read some before, but it doesn't come up in my head. How about "The Great Gatsby"?
Well done.

One would want this student in the morning before the crash sets in.
