What a riveting tell of such a personally, yet universal tragedy. Your story brings back memories that are best left buried, but I know they are still there. Something went wrong with our country that fateful day and we are still struggling to keep our head above water because of it.

Para 7, 3rd sentence: (arch rival) should be (archrival)

I was never aware of that statement by JFK you quoted in the last paragraph. That makes it all even that much eerie. Because he will be there forever.

That is quite the memory. I can't imagine even going to a football game when that national crisis happened. I was in kindergarten then so I don't have much memory except being sent home. I liked how you ended with JFK's quote at the Veterans' Day ceremony.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes in the contest!

I wouldn't be surprised, seeing how many FS writers were in h.s. back then, would write about this tragic event. Jack was okay as a President, but I liked him for being a man with a profile in courage.

Very well written. An easy read full great information about your school and hometown.

I was in Japan at that time, and it was early morning of November 23rd. No television coverage of it where I was.

Thank you.

Don't worry I'm Australian and we all seemed to come into a time of reality, with JFK at the helm the world seemed to be a brighter, someone had turned the lights out,, the hopes and dreams of the world were lost in mourning, but as we know, no human being can bear that torch indefinitely. Beautifully written my friend, blessings Roy

I don't know if this could be classified as the "Best HS Memory", but it is for sure the most memorable. It was a terrible event that most folks who lived through it can easily talk about even today. I was nine years old, and I do remember how the adults around my community were impacted. This is a well-written story. I appreciate the text being large. The visual fits perfectly. Good luck in the contest if it is not over.

This work has reached the exceptional level

This is a poignant story of something that impacted us all. Don't think anyone over 65 can't recall exactly where they were and what they were doing. I did not know about the last visit Kennedy made to Arlington Cemetery.... that gave me the chills.

They say there is a handful of moments when people could tell you exactly where they were when they heard the news:
1) The bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese in 1941.
2) The assassination of President Kennedy in 1963.
3) US astronauts walked on the moon in 1969.
4) The 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center in 2001.

I see for you, that number two is true.

Thomas, thank you for reading and reviewing. Numbers 3 and 4 are also true, maybe someday I will add those to this story. Thanks.
