This is interesting and informative, but it doesn't seem to convey a portion of your life as some of the other "dog" stories do. Or were you old enough at that time to know this information about smilodon? I am sure you were old enough to flip off a driver who nearly hit you with his car and then smile because he sipped from his bottle in front to a cop.

Your story is intriguing, but it jumps around from one topic to another too often. I had to keep reading over the different subjects you covered to make sense of them. It is a good story, but maybe you could put the different topics together in a better manner. Maybe all the Dolly Parton stuff together and why it relates to the story.

So, you were just bumming around. There doesn't seem to be much going around during this time and place in your life. This chapter appears to be mostly you philosophizing about life and origins but nothing too deep.

This continues the adventures of the homeless narrator as he makes
casual, in this case deadly, contacts with the rest of society. He shrugs off a near death clash with a young driver, not much older than 'this morning's oatmeal'! The language certainly shows this youngster has potential and confidence as he exchanges 'pleasantries' with the driver.
The writer adds interesting information about the history of the area which, as a reader, I find fascinating!

The closest I ever came to sleeping on the streets was sleeping in my car, and only for about three days, and then I found accomodation, because I was working, but nothing like the real thing, I'm happy reading the story of a streetwise kid Brett, good job, great descriptive story, well done, blessings Roy
