Many memories and emotions in this as you watch young lovers and think of their dreams and hopes. My eldest granddaughter gets married this year and watching them in the beginning of their life journey brought back my memories of our early uears. I love the final line, Janet. A lovely poem.
Cheers

Out of sixes, dear Janet, but I surely appreciate the sentiments in your exceptionally well-crafted poem.
As a mother, who has witness heartbreak in her children, this stanza resonated deeply with me:
If I could only warn them one by one
of pitfalls they'll encounter great and small.
The broken promises that they should shun
for misery and heartache come to all.
And yet, both are stronger for the heartache they experienced... as I am as well.
Thank you for sharing!

Thank you diane for this thoughtful and encouraging review and for the wishes for a six.
We do want to warn them but I'm not sure they would listen. (smile)

"On an Evening Stroll" by Janet Floor is a reflection on what experience does to the bright promise present in the expectations of young people and particularly young lovers. The narrator, an older, experienced person, kindly withholds her knowledge of life from a pair of young lovers to protect them and grant them the joy that is present in young people's illusions. How much would never be accomplished in life without the motivation that hopes and dreams give us? The poem's gentle tone accepts that pain shall be present in life but guards against the neurosis and dysfunction that so often are the outcome of real encounters.

I believe you are right, we need those hopes and dreams to motivate us. We do want to warn them and share our life's experiences but.....I'm not sure they would listen if we did. (smile)

In my opinion, a striking and nostalgic write about life in general, smoothly characterized in its entirety, in both rhyming verse and image. I particularly like the writer's decision to leave life's fate to be personally experienced, without impertinent warning...

This is absolutely gorgeous - simultaneously wishing your life-garnered wisdom could be shared and accepting that half the beauty of life is experiencing it for one's self. I love the thoughtful tone, winsome and nostalgic without being cliched.

The author's words are lovely, meaningful, have a message, are descriptive
and creative. I enjoyed reading these words. I liked how the author's
words led to leaving others destiny alone. I believe time and experiences
are how we learn. The artwork is perfect and compliments these words.

This is a well rhymed and metered poem about the beginings of romantic love. You are right that they have to be left alone to work out the hopes and dreams of their life together.
Keep writing and stay healtlhy

As we've all weathered the ups and downs of marriage and adulthood, I'm sure they will too. I can understand the concern. I hope God is the center of their marriage. Life isn't easy but it's easier with Him at the helm. Thank you for sharing this beautiful poem with us.
