Hello Jaybird, your poem beautifully illustrates the various paths of life.

I especially liked:
I now approach the final bends
and wonder where this journey ends

(It ends at the Pearly Gate. Our Heavenly Father and everyone that you have lost and loved will be waiting for you.)

Smooth rhyming. A pleasure to read. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer

Yes, Jay, I can well imagine that it's been a long journey through your 98 years I especially liked the last stanza which just says it all. A wonderful ending to a fine and well written poem. Ulla:)))

What a honest poem about mortality. yes. You have lived a long life, but you are not 100 yet so you still have many years left. Keep on going to places wherever you can and never stop and never stop writing.

Well done.

-Your note and poem are appreciated, jaybird.
-You wrote a very good poem, sharing about
the roads you have traveled, reflecting on how you felt and feel now.
-The imagery and rhyme are very good, like
"My feet are weary, painful, slow."
-A very good concluding verse, too.
-Have a good evening and upcoming weekend.

Hello Jake,
This is an excellent poem with very good rhymes and smooth meter.
You've been writing poetry longer than most people on fanstory have been alive and have knowledge stretching back all the way to the great depression.
My great grandfather lived to be ninety-nine, and at one point was the oldest voter in Brooklyn.
I think the journey ends with a reunion.
Well done.
Best wishes.
Robert

So beautiful, Jaybird! But please know that you aren't alone; you have your whole FanStory fan club out here gobbling up your work, so even if we can't be with you in person, you still have virtual company! Thanks for posting this poignant poem.

That's a good one, Jaybird. I guess you are telling me what's up ahead for me. I think your last stanza is one of the best that you have written from what I have read.

Your poetry is beautiful as always, but please don't be in a hurry to leave us. Your words reflect your pain, believe me I know what it's like, but your family needs you as long as possible.

I admire your strength and wit, and your ability to write poetry and share your deepest thoughts in rhyme. Your feet may be "weary, painful, slow," but you are a blessing to all of us on FanStory, as evidenced by the number of writers who read your posts. Thank you for sharing.

I think your poem is wonderful, although the topic is more than a bit unsettling, as I guess we all begin to ponder our futures past a certain age. Sometimes I dwell a little longer than I should in the past, too!
