Your contest poem is in great form, Mystery Author. I enjoyed
reading it. Great job with the syllable count, the smooth flow,
the color scheme and image, and the fun inspiration. Your words
were filled with great imagery. I understand how a young child
would view his school calendar as opposed to how a teacher would.
I liked how time progressed from the end of summer through the
school year to the beginning of summer again.

You did what needed to be done on the rictameter challenge. Well done. That said, can you explain, if you're a teacher, why you are, for so many in the profession express frustration even with the dawning of a new year, highlighted by, as this ditty indicates, time off?

Yes, I know, u were jk but you are not alone. My wife has a Masters in Elem Ed. but quit the field after child one was birthed. Yet many of her friends echo similar thoughts even before arriving for their first day.

As I don't live in the States I am not familiar with some of these holidays - unsure about your syllable count in the 4th line. If MEA is pronounced as 3 separate letters then your line is 9 syllables, but maybe you pronounce it as meea.
Continuity of kids' education has been so difficult for the past couple of years, no wonder a feeling such as your grandson's has become prevalent.

Sorry Lisa, as I wasn't thinking about MEA being a MN holiday for kids. So I changed that to teachers workshop. Then it wasn't saving things right, so hope it looks better. I thank you so much for your kind review.

(I had to work out what MN referred to in your reply. Knowing abbreviations for all your states doesn't come naturally to a non-resident.)
Now your poem has different font sizes, starting small. Also your syllable count doesn't conform to the rictameter scheme, because the line 'Looking towards a teacher's workshop' is 9 syllables and it should be 8.

This is one thing that is and will always be ageless, kids in school, and even adults at work generally look toward the next day off.

Thanks so much Joan. My grandson was here the other day and when I asked him if he was looking forward to school, he named all of these Holidays. So I thought it would be a cute idea for the contest. Thanks so much my friend.

The mention of an MEA day off (Minnesota Educator Academy) will remind Minnesotans of lucky days off, but do nothing for those of us schooled in the other 49 states, or elsewhere in the this big world. This poem suffers from the idea that anything emotionally inspired becomes good poetry; it is this delusion that fills our world with mediocre attempts at an art that has embodied such power in its true achievements.
