Six stars for your bravery my friend. This my dear Jesse is a pep talk/review. However I just answered your review with one word that is equivalent to 100 words! BRAVERY!! Jesse, I am the one who started talking to you while in the blind contest, so couldn't reach out until today. I am over three weeks out of my surgery but am only home a week and a half. There is nothing boring about showing that there is a fear of surgery. But there is a joy of hope of looking towards a near future of walking on your own again. I have not walked on my own for a very long time, but mine is from Lupus and a rare muscle, tissue and spine disease. I have already had the two spine surgeries which are a lot more anesthesia involved and is harder surgery to come out of it with.
So now I had both legs to fix. I had the one on July 7 and next one will be on Sept 6 and they are hopeful to have me out of the wheelchair by Christmas. But I will warn you my friend. Between PT, OT and HHC drawing labs daily, they are showing me why they wanted me in a transition center. But I fought to come home after a two week stay in the hospital. And another thing about mine is that my bones were growing crooked so they did the new knee but also attached rods on top and bottom of my leg to straighten and strengthen it. And my friend you should see how straight it is now. And I know you will join me in my excitement when I tell you that the other day, they had me take 2 steps with the walker which is so big for me. You just have to work hard with them and next summer, you and I can meet each other and do the Boston Marathon together. LOL...... Once again I am proud of you for writing this and also for moving forward. Yours will be more routine and chances of any problems are rare for these, and you most certainly won't wake up because the anesthetist is there the whole time monitoring you. When is the date of yours? I would like to know, to cheer you on until then and keep cheering as you are working along side me (with a couple thousand miles between us) But thats the beauty of this site. Are you having both knees done?
I bet you will be walking before me, and I am so tremendously happy for you..... So one last comment before I am done. Was I scared? I think as it got closer, I was getting more apprehensive, not knowing what to expect, but mine was more for the rods that there was going to be in there. You will do great my friend and soon you will be out a month and thinking to yourself, Hey Piece of Cake!!!

Hi Debi! Funny, you should say rods attached to the upper and lower leg because this is what will be happening to me. I am having revisionist surgery on my left knee with a hinge attachment and rods screwed into my upper and lower leg.
So who knows how long I will take to recover? It may be weeks or shorter or longer depending on too many things to count. I have been in a wheelchair for over two years and I am 68 years of age.
For all your supportive advice I doubt I will be ever saying Piece of Cake.
Thanks for your good wishes and prayers!

Hi Jesse. Well as you are having the same exact surgery as I had done, it is exactly 4 weeks today for me. I am working extremely hard w all the different people who come to my house weekly and frankly I can't say, piece of cake either but remember, lol that was a pep talk. However I can tell you that it is painful but it is moving forward and getting better everyday. When is your first surgery or are they doing both legs at once or are you only have one done?
Maybe we can help each other through this. My next surgery has to be a little later now as they moved it to Sept 12 for more healing on this one first. I'll be in touch my friend!

    Good morning, Debi!
Only my left leg and, hopefully, it won't be the other, as well. Since I live so far away from UCSF I prefer to go to a rehab nearby. The last time when I had my neck surgery I needed to go to rehab and spent 3 months there. I hope to spend a considerably shorter period of time this time around!
    Thanks for touching base.
    Jesse

I understand the fear of surgery. I've had to have some recently and was petrified each time. I will be praying for the surgeon to have knowledge required, for your speedy recovery, for Sunny, and for all your dreams to come true. Sending love and prayers.

You did a great job expressing your thoughts and
feelings, Jesse, about your upcoming surgery. I
believe most people would feel like you do, though
they may not admit it.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Jan

Being frightened of any surgery is natural, and I know you will be fine. I will be thinking and praying for you that your recovery is quick and you will be back soon with Sunny.
Jesse, your honesty in letting your readers know exactly how you feel is commendable.
My best wishes to you,
Mary

-These six stars are for sharing this, writing it well, being honest with your feelings, and also for good wishes for your surgery, Jesse.
-Not too many people want surgery. It is the land of the unknown
-It is natural to be scared.
-I don't think anyone is going tell jokes about you, and as long as you trust your doctors, that is the main thing.
-Your thoughts of walking in the sand on the beach and among the Sequoia trees should be those pleasant thoughts you take with you on the day you go to the hospital.
-You will have a lot of people thinking about you and wishing you well.
-Good luck with the surgery and thoughts will be with you.
-Take care and be well. I have found the worst part is anticipating what this or that will be, and once you don't know what's going on, you relax!!

Thank you, Pam. I am honored and humbled by your six stars! Some say I am honest to a fault. To be honest with my feelings, I don't know any other way.
Thanks for your support and guidance.
I was relaxed the last time I went in for surgery, and it turned out all right!
I will try my best to relax again.
Thanks for all your well wishes!
    Take care, my friend!

You are very welcome and deserving of the stars and review, Jesse. Honesty is part of who you are, and it is refreshing. I have had surgeries, and the best part is when you don't know anything, and they tell you it's over!

I hope you are right, Pam!
Knowing yet not knowing is a hard concept for me!
    Thanks for all your support!

You are not alone, Jesse, and are right about the knowing and not knowing, especially before something like this. It is normal that it would weigh on your mind.

I'll be praying for you. I'm confident you'll be using those trekking poles in no time after the surgery. Thank you for voices some of the fears and worries I think most of us would have facing such a long surgery. good luck, my friend.

Positivity is most important, before and I believe, throughout my surgery, I thought of all that I might miss then realized what I did not possess was the strength in belief, mainly of doctors, hope, and faith, yet here I be writing to a friend knowing we will talk some more, my wishes are with and for you, Jesse****kahpot

You will be okay Jesse, you are in good hands with the surgeons and it will be all over in no time. Surgeons rarely operate if there is a risk, take your laptop and write about it afterwards, try not to be too stressed about it, good luck, love Dolly x

I plan on taking my laptop so, I can stay connected to Fan Story and the rest of the outside world. What with the pandemic and Monkeypox virus going around it will be the only way I can stay connected.
    Thanks for your support!
