I'll be praying for you, my friend. Do you have a neighbor who will visit your cat and feed her? That's what I'll do when I take a three day holiday on September first too. Your fears come through on this post but also your hopes on what can be accomplished- to get rid of the wheelchair. A positive attitude is so important to the outcome. Keep dreaming of seeing yourself walk again. And visualize a white light around yourself especially before surgery. The white light is for healing.
I'm excited for you, Jesse.

I have every confidence that you will fly through this surgery very easily, and begin to walk again. All of us here will be thinking of you and praying. Let us know as soon as you can after surgery.

Jesse, I think you have expressed this so honestly and openly, regarding your feelings about the surgery. You are an excellent communicator. You use language very well and seem to know exactly the right words to use for expressing your deepest fears as well as your fondest dreams. I liked what you said about thinking positive and I know you will have MANY prayers lifted for you as you have this surgery the first of September. If you care to, I would be very interested in another post describing the medical side of this surgery. What will the doctors do and why is it necessary? This was excellent. Thank you for writing this.

Thanks, Adonna, for your concern. I admire your works of poetry and am happy to see your review. You are the only one who requested me to describe the medical side of my upcoming surgery.
I am thrilled that you asked but overwhelmed with preparations for it already. I will continue to think positively and am glad for the many prayers lifted for me as my surgery approaches.
Thanks for your kindness, my friend.

Jesse, I had knee surgery and there is nothing to be afraid of. It is painless, believe me. The only real worry I can see would be for your Cat. Our pets do a lot of worrying too when the person they love comes up missing. Good luck and Relax! You will be fine. Nancy:)

Wow, it is amazing, how time creeps up on us, isn't it Jesse. I am so glad that you are aware of your pending surgery and that you are frightened- I think that when faced with any surgery one is entitled to be afraid. Aww, Sunny will be fine, she is a tough old girl, soon you will be welcoming her home. I will pray for you and a speedy recovery. You will do great, stop worrying.

Jesse, it's expected to be nervous before a major surgery, but in reality, things can only get better. Your goals maybe closer than you've ever thought they could be. I'm praying that this surgery is the one that changes your life from now on. Wish you the best! Ric

Yes, Ric, it is expected of me to be nervous but it never ends.
Reality plays tricks on us sometimes so I am prepared for the inevitable other shoes to drop. Yet I remain hopeful and positive and sure that the outcome will be fine.
Thanks for your prayers, my friend!
    Best wishes,

Jesse,

This is a well written peek into the window of all of our own doubts and imaginings. We can always see all the things that could go wrong, but often have trouble focusing on everything that is going right . . . And will go right. Three hours? Pshaw, it'll be a piece of cake. Your surgery will go well and you will walk again. You will do all the PT, no matter how much it hurts, and then do even more. A few years ago my husband had his leg crushed by a huge granite block. Every bone was broken except the patella. The femur and tibia were splintered and had to be pieced back together with plates and screws. As soon as he got out of the wheelchair, I had to teach him to walk with a walker, first clumping, then sliding it, then with a cane, then with nothing. We did about 4-5 times the recommended PT. Except for a sore knee joint and big scars, you would never know he was injured. Focus on the recovery and that wonderful feel of wet sand on your feet! You WILL walk!

Sue

This work has reached the exceptional level

Six stars for expressing the very real human response to what is a stars though it is a good reason to be stressed.

This is the culmination of a long journey to find the perfect surgeon who is confident in the surgical plan and your desired outcome!

Believe me, as an RN the pre-op patients that most concerned us were those who said they were "just fine" with "no worries!"

Writing to express your concerns is therapeutic, Jesse. You are planning well, considering Sunny's welfare, what you should bring--(don't forget your laptop!)--and envisioning the end result...to walk again!

You have a huge family here at FanStory who care very much about you, my friend!

I see you using those trekking poles and living this dream which very soon will become a reality!

My Very Best to You!

Karenina

If it helps, most of us are terrified to "go under the knife.". It's the fear of not waking up in my case.

I'm glad you shared your musings with us, and I hope this surgery brings you closer to a walk on the beach.

We'll look forward to hearing how you're doing.

Fear is an honest reaction. I am sure of that when it comes to surgery. Positive thinking has always helped me in the past, and I will continue to be a positive thinker.
    Thanks for your thoughtful comments.
Here's to walking on the beach with toes in the sand!
I will stay in touch with all of you here on Fan Story.

Thank you for taking us into your world and the thoughts of your heart, Jesse. You always know how to say things as it is. That is not easy if you worry about what people think. But you know you are among friends who care for you and will be praying for you (and for Sunny, too!). May the Lord use this surgery to fulfill your dream of walking and hiking.

Thanks, Helen! It is you who always know what to say. I try, but sometimes I am afraid I'm being too honest with my feelings. It feels good to know I am among friends!
Thank you for your prayers and wishes!
