Just think positive. I woke up on two different surgeries. They will put you back to sleep. I hope everything goes well for you. Thank you for sharing.

You have very reasonable expectations about your surgery. I made a deal with my doctor, who says I really talk about weird things when I'm under, that he will tell me to shut up. One time he sang to me as I was going under too slowly, but it didn't help. The procedure failed and then I went into diabetic shock. Not fun. I will pray for you to walk again and maybe even dance a bit of Electric Slide. And keep on writing your great stories.

Should you wake up during surgery, they will hit you up with more anesthesia immediately; they watch you closely, so try not to worry. I've had this happen on several occasions.

Is Sunny being boarded?

I am so glad you bought yourself some trekking poles. You have a strong will to make 'walking' happen, and I believe in you.

And, you're right. No matter how many times we may have had prior surgeries, the next one is just as scary. We're not getting any younger.

Hugs and prayers. Your FanStory friends will be here for you.

Gale

Thanks, Gale. Your supportive review is appreciated greatly. Sunny will be taken care of by two of my closest friends.
David and Darcy will take turns feeding and cleaning out her cat box and making sure she has clean water to drink. They will of course give her lots of loving and comfort as she is used to this from all of us. Yes, each surgery is scary and we are not getting any older we are getting better with age! So even if we heal slower we can stand the pain and discomfort more easily.
In no time I will be walking again!!!
At least, that is the plan!
Thanks for your hugs and prayers.
Your support means so much to me.
Team Jesse will conquer and walk!

One more step on your way to freedom!!!
I've had surgery a few times, and never woke up.
But did they joke about me? You know, I never thought
of that. Hope they had a good time if they did, ha ha.

But your kitty! That's different, and I pray she will
hang on 'til you can return.

Yay you!! Getting it done!!
Blessings...

Another fine write, Jesse----and I'll wish you good luck, but you won't need it--soon, you'll be relaxing at home and putting all the worrying behind you

Relaxing? I doubt it. Instead, I will be working harder than I ever have before to use my legs as I have never done before to walk again. Between PT and other people at the rehab, they will be working my butt off to get me walking before I can go home! Once home I will be doing my exercises every day twice a day so finding ample time to relax will sound inviting but I will have to keep on moving on!!!
    Sounds exhausting, doesn't it?
    I welcome the exhaustion!
Thanks, Mike, for wishing me good luck.

It takes a brave and strong person to share their innermost thoughts and feelings the way you have, especially when one of the feelings is fear. Several years ago I had shoulder surgery and my friend had knee surgery. She recovered much faster than I, and boasted being able to easily go up and down stairs. I pray for your speedy recovery, and Sunny's safety and health. Your friends here at FanStory are here to support you.

I do not feel brave when it comes to my upcoming surgery. My raw feelings shared come from knowing there is no way other than up. I am as positive as I can be under the circumstances. My strength comes from knowing I have all of you to support me.
    Thanks for your prayers.

Jesse, go get 'em. If that surgeon tells you a joke you don't think is funny, just kick him in...the know where, even if it's a virtual kick, I am pretty sure he will feel it. Good luck, and hurry back. Terry.

Ha ha, very funny, Terry! I like that, a virtual kick in you know where. Thanks for wishing me good luck. I will hurry back, walking and standing, proud!

I thought about a light-hearted, quick-witted, humorous review.
My wife says, "What! Are you an idiot?" As usual, she's right.
Surgeons these days are wizards - geniuses. And they've been doing knee stuff for quite some time. As long as you are willing to do the rehab work, you should have every confidence.
You have all my best.

Thanks, Wayne. I am more than willing to do the rehab work. It's the surgeons I worry about! Ha ha. Do you see? I can be as lighthearted as the next guy.
    But, seriously folks!
Thanks for your confidence in me.
I appreciate your kindness and, caring.
    Say hello to your wife!
    Have a wonderful weekend!

Hello Jesse, you will do it! You will walk again. Although you have valid concerns, you have a positive attitude, and that is key to recovery. Please don't worry about waking up during the surgery. The doctors really have this stuff under control. San Francisco is a great city, and I'm sure they have some of the best surgeons there. I am concerned about how you will get back home and if anyone will be going with you to SF. As far as those surgeon and staff jokes, I made fun of myself before they could. Sharing again ... my cancer surgery was in a teaching hospital. The two surgeons told me that my surgery was filling up the gallery. And then, that's when I sang a song to them--lol. Perhaps, you remember this song. The doctors were too young to know it. They thought that I made up this quirky song. I'm giving you a lot to read here. Here's the song: "Spill the Wine." I took pieces of it:

I dreamed I was in a Hollywood movie
And that I was the star of the movie
This really blew my mind

I stood high by the mountain tops
Naked to the world ... etc, etc.

(Jesse, I cracked those doctors up, and I made fun of myself being naked to the world in front of a whole gallery of interns. You need not worry. With having knee surgery, you'll have ample coverings.)

Jesse, what I'm trying to say is that laughter and light humor is the best medicine.

I think having your laptop and a cell phone will be a great comfort to you, and it will keep you you connected the world.

In the meantime, your FS family will be thinking and praying for you and your recovery, and we wait with bated breath for you to walk once more on sandy shores or to hike beneath the sequoia trees!

Jesse, you will do it, and your FS family will be cheering for you. Touch base with everyone before you leave for SF. Today you wrote something brave. Six stars for you. Sincerely, Margaret ~ LB

Thanks, Margaret! Your well-placed humor and jovial review not only brought back some great memories (I loved that song) but reminded me to accept what I can't change and change what I can!
Thanks for sharing and yes I know that my friends here on FS will be routing for me and will receive me with open arms after the recovery and I return.
Your wonderful six stars prove just the ticket to soothe my heart!
    Best wishes, my friend!

Revealing your fears, Jesse, is a sure sign of inner strength. It takes a lot to open one's self up like this.
You must need this surgery, so you will undergo it, and, God willing, you'll emerge an even stronger man. I'm sure you have someone trustworthy to look after your cat.
I look forward to reading your reports about your recovery.

Best of luck.

Peace, Lee

Thanks, Lee. Yes, I need this surgery so I can walk upright again, like a natural man!
I have been confined to a wheelchair for far too long! It is time for me to face my fears and go through them and wake up feeling hopeful and free!
Thanks for your thoughtful feedback and support.
Thanks, also, for wishing me well and good luck!
