Well, this is a different take on the nursery rhyme, I guess if the blackbirds are singing their brains would have to be in the pie, a wonderful 5-7-5 poem, thanks for the smiles****kahpot

This is so devilishly fun.
I never understood the nursery rhyme however I think this one makes more sense that is if you like blackbird brains.
Best wishes
Mary

Thanks, Mary. I guess prank pies were a trend back in the sixteenth century.

Love it, love it, love it! How you mastered the placement of the "key" to the joke to the very end. By devilishly diverting our attention with the "brains" of the blackbird ... you deliver so adroitly:
"'bout four and twenty" and the reader's unscrambles everything to arrive at the great reveal! Brilliantly written, Bill! You da man!

Thank you, Jay, for the exuberant review of this terse verse. You always make me feel much better than I am. Bill

A graduate student I remember from years would have asked, "What's the symbolism of that?" I don't care if they did it in the past. Blackbirds do not belong in a pie. I bet those pies will not be eaten. Excellent use of alliteration. judi

Someone must have been baking pies at your house. I just read that at one time in France the cooks in the kings courts got creative with their pies. One of the chefs came up with the idea of placing live blackbirds into a pie before covering it with a pastry topping. When the pie was cut open the none too happy birds flew out, much to the amazement of the startled guests. Hence the rhyme. They apparently didn't bake their brains as your pie maker did. LOL

ROFL! Only you could come up with a poem like this. Excuse me while I puke. No, I'm not going to admit that . . . because it would make your day. Thanks for sharing.

Urk! You just never quit do you? Despite your efforts to make me puke, I am going to finish my dinner. I do not know how long I will be able to hold on to it, but I am going to eat this meal no matter what. So there MR. foul mouth writer guy. How do you like them apples?

You are a hater. Apples are great. In fact they are my favorite fruit.

You can't stop writing about pies. And this one has blackbird brains in it. It has historical reference, I think. I can be wrong, but I wouldn't google for it since it's a nonsense poem anyway.

Well done.

It seems there was a tradition of presenting live creatures in pre-baked pie shells at dinners for royalty. That's entertainment. I would guess that bird brains are more of an acquired taste.

I never understood that nursery rhyme. Why were four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie and how in the world did they start singing afterwards? I'm guessing it was symbolism but have no clue. Thanks for reminding me of that odd rhyme.

Devised by the same people who keep P. P. Pumpkin-eater's wife inside a pumpkin shell.
