This brief story demonstrates an unimaginable number of hours of research. Much was uncovered, going as far back as 1050,1066, and 1086. I found the list of famous people with the name King very interesting. Your title is compelling, and draws readers. Thanks for sharing this history.

A very interesting story of the King name and family.
As to our unsmiling ancestors, I read somewhere that photography was new and the subjects wanted to immulate their own answers who had their portraits painted and looked regal in oil.

Thank you, Mary, I appreciate the review and comments. I was being kind when I said this lady looked grim in the picture. She looked line scary. I wouldn't have wanted to be one of her children. Lol.

I think photographers back then told their subjects not to smile or it would break the lens! I have photos of some of my ancestors and all look grim. King seems to have been and still is a popular last name.

Thanks for great review. I agree. You never saw a smile from anyone back in the early days of photography. Actually when those old camera bulbs popped it was a minor explosion. Those posing were likely too nervous to smile. Lol

Very interesting. I enjoyed reading and am glad you're doing this genealogy search and writing about it. It will help your ancestors know more about who they are. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Thank you Barbara. I really pleased to find that others are willing to review what I'm writing without saying it isn't about them so they're not interested.

Thank you Jan. I was afraid when I started this others would care to read about family names in my family. It is good to know that it isn't totally boring.

It's always a pleasure to see where your research about your family will lead us in the next chapter. After losing the family fortune, it's good to know that with pen in hand, we all might be able to get a bologna sandwich and a bowl of beans. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Gert. I'm glad you found some humor in my story. Some one had a strange way with words to call a church. Christ the school and a church. Now you me laugh.

Thanks for telling us about the last name King. It's too bad that Evan didn't have interest in them. In Asian countries, there are lots of people with the last name "King" (Wang, Huang) so either the royalty slept around or perhaps people "owned" by the king got that last name? I bet it's a common phenomenon all over the world.
It's great that you gave us more information about Grace King!
Comments:
The family traces it's roots back to Virginia (its)
I felt she was worth feathering (featuring?) I wasn't sure what "feathering" meant.

Thanks for the nice review. I didn't realize those Oriental names meant King. According to what I read, the name had nothing to do with a real king. They suggested the person possible had kingly qualities or played a king in a play. As to feathering that was my spell checker. Some time my eyes don't detect it corrected with the wrong word. I was surprised that most of the well know Kings had chosen that name instead of using their own.

What an interesting write! This had me laughing:
"I will say her parents did her a big favor when they named her Jeanette. She has a sister named Caledonia and brothers named Ippingtas and Eppenedus. They went by Ipp and Epp."
I learned something new:
"...the ones who didn't deliberately change their name to King, have families that trace their roots to slavery, so their original name would not have been King."
So cool:
"Because of my own interest in writing, I felt she was worth feathering as one of the true King clan who shared DNA with my husband and children."
Thanks for sharing this one :)

Thank you Erika. I didn't mean to right feathering. I apparently I spelled featuring wrong and the spell checker decided to make it feathering. LOL I might feather her nest but not her. You need tar to feather a person.
