I am new to this site so I hope I don't make a mistake! First of all I really liked it. Second of all I thought it could be seen at least two different ways depending on your point of view. I read it as the climbing to the top and doing whatever it takes amounts to selling your soul. I heard you anger and a description of basically a sleaze ball!. :) But I can see others reading it and thinking, yes that is the way to make it to the top, and I aspire to that. This is my first review but I can see form your post and an item I read in the forums that how this site rates and how pieces get to the top is a topic of strong feelings. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for the great review, Julia, and welcome to the site. What I'm making fun of here is the people who will spend big bucks of 'real' cash to get their pieces way up to the front page. There's some on here that have that kind of money. Most of us don't so we have to do it the hard way, by reviewing. Just to get enough fake money built up to promote a piece up to 50 cents takes close to $25. I think all that reviewing and time should get you more than 8 or 9 reviews. That's all I was getting at, poking fun at the people who can afford to promote everything they write up to the front page.
Just to give you a heads up, usually the going rate is 5 stars for a piece you like on here. A lot of folks frown at 4 star ratings. A 4 means the piece has some errors that need addressed. Whenever you give somebody a 4, just add how you think it could be improved or point out the corrections that are needed. Just letting you know so someone doesn't jump down your throat for it. Lol

This is an excellent scathing commentry on the way the world is run. The wealthy will always have a tremendous advantage. It is not confined to FS. But i do believe hard work will pay in the end. Kate xx

I have a cardinal rule - never buy promotion money. If I stick to my reviewing schedule, I find I can promote 2, sometimes 3 posts per week to the front page, as well as a few posts between where I just use a Treasure Chest (which I consider the mininum). Granted, though, there are those who promote every post to the top and rarely seem to review, so they must be spending a fortune! Mind you, they are helping to feed the cash prize contests (there are way more of those that there used to be).
You did a great job with the restrictive prompt. I very much enjoyed the read.

Oh, I never spent 'real' cash to promote on here. That's just ludicrous. I rarely promote on here at all. As long as I can place in a contest here and there, I have plenty to waste on more contests. Lol. I've given up a long time ago for reviews on this site. It's just once in a while I will promote but would like more than just a little eight or nine reviews for the close to 30 fake buck i spent. I just like to gripe about it sometimes. Lol. Thanks for the great review and stars, Mike. I appreciate it.

I've come to the conclusion it's only worth doing more than the basic treasure chest if I'm going all the way to the top - otherwise, it makes no difference at all to the number of reviews! :-)

It must be nice to be some of these people who can promote everything they write up to the top of the front page when most of us have to struggle just to get their piece up to paying fifty cents and getting a whole whopping eight reviews for it.
