Sweet and simple, which lends it power, though I think BOTH are golden. ha ha. Still, for satirical purposes, the first line is a perfect set up for the last line. In this context, you're right!
My parents neglected this, so I really understand! My dad expressed love through criticism. So sad. I only understand how intensely he loved me just before he died.
This is a powerful reflective poem with few words that speak important volumes. Bravo.

A lovely message in both your eight word poem and your author notes, Wendy.
I particularly liked
Gold represents precious ness, wealth and value. I have never thought of it that way. Cheers Valda

I think you and I share an abject hatred of child abuse, and even though the world doesn't recognise it as such, abortion is on that list, but to abuse a child should be in the capital crimes list, along with actual, rape etc. but abuse is the worst, it is a life sentence for a child, beautifully written, blessings Roy

You are right Roy. Thanks so much for reviewing. Those three words are necessary to a child, and words of love spoken up in support of abuse victims are very necessary.

Here-here!
Particularly in the context of abused children! Not ever enough to love them and turn a blind eye to their plight! Can that truly be love at all?
To be silent is to aid and abet the abuse!

Thanks Karenina, that's exactly what I think. Love for some-one means we must stand up against bullying. Remaining silent is showing lack of care and love. I appreciate your words.

Well said! It's important to speak words of affirmation and love. Although I have heard that we all have different love languages but this is so important to remember to tell our loved ones that we love them. Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you Helen. Yes, we do, and it is important to acknowledge the love languages - but how precious are words of love as well.
Thanks for your good wishes.

NIce poem for the contest. A very wise and insightful short verse that packs a lot of meaning in a concise structure. I'm waiting for more of those teaching stories!

Thanks Tim for a lovely review. I am SO glad you like the teaching stories. I wondered if people might get sick of them so I was giving a bit of time before the next ones come. I'll get busy on the next set soon! You are so encouraging! (Heading off to the Recovery Centre now, and all day Wednesday, so time is a bit short at the moment)

What an endearing thought. You've taken a familiar cliche' and made it your own and made it better in the process. Just three little words. that's
all, just say them once in a while to the one you love.
I love it.

Yes, yes! I love this. So succinctly put - yet so absolutely true. The picture complements the poem well. It's a signature "gold" for me. I love hearing it and saying it!
