Wow, how awful. That incident was not handled properly by the school administration at all. That's really a shame. It's also too bad teachers don't get paid what they are worth.
Best of luck in the Teaching Affected Me contest. I look forward to reading more of your work. Feel free to check out my portfolio if you ever have a minute. :)
Cheers,
Erika

I am overwhelmed by the response to this contest. Thank you for adding your voice to the others, with this sad story of the end of your teaching career. I hope you have found compensations elsewhere. Kate xx

Thank you very much for reviewing. I actually found a job that I truly loved, that placed me in charge, and that paid more than teaching. In fact, due to my new job, I was able to take two weeks off when my first two grandbabies were born, which I wouldn't have been able to do teaching.

That's so sad. It's not fair to the kids. When I was in school, I remember my brother getting the strap for popping a paper bag in the lunchroom. That was extreme, and our parents were furious. Now it's gone to the other extreme, and I think it does even more damage. Good luck in the contest.

You are so right. The kids suffer because they end up losing teachers that are truly skilled and that truly care, and they end up with people that are there strictly for the check and the vacations. Thank you for reviewing.

It sounds like you had to learn about bureaucratic social structure the hard way. What a pity. Have you heard about the boy who by now would be a man? Sometimes they make a complete turnaround. Other times they waste away in prison. And you still have to be reminded of it by your bum knee. Good luck with the contest.

I heard that he is actually in prison, but I didn't check up on it. Yes, I have to live with what he did every day of my life. Thank you for reviewing.

Good poem for the contest. It shows the downside of teaching and students. The school put you in an untenable position. Well-written and very straightforward account of the event.

Thank you so much for reviewing. Yes, they definitely did put me in an untenable position. However, I ended up walking straight into the best job I ever had and making $2000 more a year than I was making as a teacher.
