A slice of life piece. Some things noted:

-Being able to accurately predict the weather would be a special talent to possess.

-Seems even in a wheelchair Alice still managed to keep her home in order.

-The dialogue seems natural for the setting.

-Appears Isaac's lot increased with the Duke's proposal.

Interesting story that certainly could lead into more development.

Dear Brett, Thank you for your review of "He was a shepherd" and the comments pertaining to it. Alice, Isaac's wife, was able to stand and even walk a few paces in her early years, and as she grew older she had three daughters who would do what she was unable to do.
Isaac's skill at weather prediction was legendary, and the duke prospered because of it. cheers Cass

What a delightful story! I'm glad you shared it but as it was in a blind contest, we didn't get notified of it. I think it is wonderful how your great-great grandfather was gifted in meteorology so that everyone was blessed by it. And your great-great grandmother was amazing!

Dear Helen, Thank youfor your review and the five stars. There is a tamily legend that the duke's daughter changed the dat of he wedding after hearing that "Father Isaac" had forecast foul weather for that weekend. It was borne out in fact when a huge storm blew up and threatened many homes and cottages in the district. Many people who would have been guests at the wedding were at home instead and gave thanks for "Father Isaac's"
    timely warning cheers Cass

Well written.
But expecting a regular story, I anticipated a woeful ending - an un-predicted tornado, or some such.
Good work and good luck in the contest.
Best wishes.

Dear Wayne, Thank you for your review and the five stars.
I'm sorry the story didn't follow the form you were expecting, but never mind. Isaac was a brilliant weather forecaster and would have avoided any losses to his flocks. cheers

This is a very interesting genealogy story. I guess being head shepherd for the Duke is would be a good job. I like how you have added interest by allowing the man to be late for the appointment. . My own grandfather was the most accurate weatherman I've ever met. Far better than those we find to the weather on TV. Grandpa was always right.

This is a most entertaining and informative essay for the 'Ancestor Story' presented through the lens of history and with appropriate dialogue, bringing the event to life'.

Dear Zanya, Thank you for your review And the AWESOME SIX STARS. Isaac was unknown to me before I was put in touch with a cousin ( 3rd or 4th) who knows all the family stories right back to 1750's. When she learned I was directly related she wrote the story down and sent it to me.

This piece flows well. The language is fitting to the subject. The dialogue is believable. The narrative stays on point. The ending is pleasant without being puffed.

Thanks for a good read.

Dear Friend, Thankyou for your review and the five stars.
This is a story handed down through several generations. It has been told with far more decoration than this time, but I kept to the bare bones of the story.

well, it seems Isaac was rewarded for doing his duty to his sheep, as well as for his knowledge of predicting weather. And it also seems like Isaac's youngest son made up for lack of money with his progeny.
A very interesting story and history of your family.

Dear Katherine, Thank you for your review and the five stars. Isaac was a fascinating character. Larger than life in some ways. His benevolence was legendary. He was known to have bedded down with a sick ewe to watch over her during the night.More than once he made a trip to the nearest town to the apothecary ( modern days would call this a pharmacist) for medicines for his sheep.
His wife Alice died at the age of 42, but Isaac lived until he was eighty nine.
