Ricky, I must ask you a rather personal question. If you don't want to answer, then don't. Did it make you feel better or worse knowing your son's heart, liver, etc?, gave another person life for a few more years?

For 17 hours I cried that day oh my god did I cry!
I literally watched my baby disintegrate!
All my hopes and dreams for him and all his hopes and dreams and ended.
    And I had died.
    But no he had not!
And even though it was a hard decision it was an important and necessary one.
As the letter started coming in from two men it was rebuilding my life.
I now was reading about their happiness their children going forward!
So even though it was a hard decision and even though I cried it was the most important thing I've ever done in my life!

Thank you for answering my question. When my son was killed, no one asked me if I wanted to donate organs. His heart was shattered by the bullet, but all his other organs would have been okay. I often wonder how I would feel if some part of my baby could have lived on.

Unfortunately, in your situation with your loved one?
He would have had to be hooked up immediately after that horrible situation.
Oxygen needs to be present in order to sustain the other organs.

That wasn't possible in my son's case because he was shot in the woods and it probably took ten minutes to get to him or longer. They didn't carry cell phones around in 1985.

This brings me back probably about 52 years ago.
Yes, when I was young and my best friend Barry Eldridge was in the woods hunting with his father.
Unfortunately, the shotgun got stood against the tree.
He was shot directly in the chest and of course killed instantly I believe back then we were around 7 or 8 years old.

I love that you use the callous comedic tone to convey something actually quite beautiful and important, with organ donating so beneficial and so personal to you. There's the sense of a market trader in the tone, and I think you did a great job :-)
