This was a beautiful entry for the Cliche' It Ain't So writing prompt contest.

I loved your poem about ending up in court....hehehe. it's funny.

Well done. Goodluck in the contest.

Thanks...but this one isn't a contender since I was the one who sponsored the contest, and I just used this to explain it better. I did an atrocious job with my original explanation so took Miss Merri's advice and put up an explanation example. I'll do better next time...and Miss Merri even promised to be my second set of eyes on the copy!!

I quite liked your example! How often did we hear that as a child!
I also liked the different style of this contest, as it will bring out a different sort of creativity (not mine probably!)

Well, you were not a cliche'-user to begin with, so that's fine. It was kind of the Teacher in me trying to gently coax people into cool turns of phrases rather than the tried-and-true variety. (hahaha. See what I did there, Wendy. Sometimes, I just can't help myself...)

This poem, Somebody's Watching You, reminds me how this cliche always leads me to hyperbole. "If I've told you once, I've told you a thousand times -- Don't exaggerate!

I think this example should get them straight. It's a shame you used your member dollars to write the example. You can put the example on the directions or start a discussion thread underneath the prompt. You will do better the next time setting it up and saving on your membership dollars.

You are SO very right about that!! And Miss Merri, who was the friend who suggested I do an "example" post, said she will be my second set of eyes next time, before I post the guidelines. Older and wiser, Sandra --that's me!!

I understand. Hopefully, we all learn from errors as we go. I am intimidated to try.

If you ever want to go in on one together, I'd be game. Two heads are always better than one! (See what I did there with the cliche thing...)

That's music to my ears. LOL After this contest let's do one so we too may earn some dollars too.

I think this is fun idea for a contest! I did not enter but I am sure enjoying reading the entries. Your ending to a popular cliche' is unexpected but made me chuckle because nothing is private anymore. Gotta be careful we don't offend anyone either!

Yes, it is. And speak no evil, see no evil, hear no evil is the very embodiment of our courts today. Everyone seems to be innocent until proven innocent.

Nicely said.

But those rare ones who get proven Guilty, they get to have their story shown on Dateline or 2020. (trade-offs, I guess...)

    Thanks for the good review.

Hi Rachelle,
a big thank you for posting an example. Whilst I'm not in the contest, I have read more than a few who are... and yes, a little confused on the actual format... but it makes perfect sense now... so well done for coming in and doing this.

With our thoughts we create...
interpretation in flow.

Kind regards,
James.

Thanks. It was kind of humbling--but in a hilarious, good-spirited way--when the person who sponsored the next-level version of it, Cliche' Touche', with, like, one line's worth of example, and it was PERFECT! *sigh* Sooo very much still to learn!!

Thanks for letting me know that my "Take Two" was helpful. I appreciate the feedback.

Hi Rachelle. I think you have given a clear example of a cliche and this is good because many of the cliches I have read aren't really cliches. I noticed you used the same artwork in one of the other posts but isn't that a giveaway to who is running?
Anyway, you give a good precise example and I hope that others follow suit.
Thanks for clearing it up for others.
Jesse

I'm actually sponsoring that contest. But, I didn't do a very good job explaining it, so then I set up Somebody's Watching You to clarify. [I'm a newbie on this site, you see...] The picture doesn't seem to be able to be changed for anyone in the contest. (The only way I know that is because one of the contestants private-messaged me to ask.) For future contests I sponsor, though, I've gotten pledges from a couple veteran members to help me set it up and explain it well. So I won't be repeating this gaffe!

    Thanks for your review.

I have read a few entries and it seems this contest has become popular and some have even learned what a cliche is because of this contest. You made me smile with your entry, love Dolly x
