As the son of a veteran and a veteran myself, I appreciate this short poem that expresses so much emotion.
While serving as an Electronics Technician aboard the heavy cruiser USS Rochester(Also the flagship for the US Navy 7th Fleet) I visited the graves on Okinawa, Iwo Jima, and several other Pacific Islands where battles were fought against the Japanese.
On the south side of the large island of Luzon, in Lingayen Gulf there was till wreckage in the water there from the WWII battle to take back Luzon and the Philippine Islands.
I was awed and touched by the cemeteries, some of which are just mass graves with hundreds of unidentified Marines and Navy servicemen buried there.
I see from your bio that you were born in 1978, which makes you just
33-34 now?
You have a remarkable insight(Most people do not gain this privilege until much later in life, yeah, including me) for your age, and I appreciate your pride in our country, the absolute best place in the world to live!
Cheers, irish

As a veteran, i was moved by this 1-6-1 syllable poem. The font is large and easily read. The syllable count is on point, and the visual fits perfectly. Good luck in the contest.

Beautiful! So strong and patriotic and NEEDED today! I really, REALLY like this entry and hope it goes straight to #1. The words/text stand alone resoundingly, but the picture you chose adds the perfect "oompf." Best of luck to you today, Myster Poet.

This is an interesting way to utilise the 161 format - the tight rhyme gives it a snappy, upbeat pace, but the subject is far more serious, and I enjoyed the counterpoint. I like the image of a military graveyard as a tomb for bravery, for striving, for loss. Beautifully written.

The picture and the piece of poetry tie in well with each other. It's very limited in how much you can say in that many syllables, yet I feel you managed to get your point over, Well done.
