Hello Terry hope you're enjoying your day. Another fine story and one I can relate too as teaching affected me too. I still remember and think of my favorite teacher fondly. It was my 10th and 12th grade English teacher Mr. Braunstein he helped and inspired me to love words and the english language, he undoubtedly had a hand in the creation of the13thpoet. Teachers are one of the most unappreciated and underrated resources we have. Most teachers are true frontline heroes.

Pam, thank you for the review, Mrs. Fryar after reading the story, said she was the real winner, because she got to work with a great bunch of kids over the years! Terry.

You write the loveliest stories. I was lucky enough to have been a good student who never struggled in school, but I, too, had teachers who influenced me, teachers like Mrs. VanOra, whose encouragement and approbation made me want to work more and harder. My daughter, who has always struggled in school, just graduated high school with an 85 average, thanks, in large part, to Ms. Boodhoo, who took her under her wing and offered time, support, suggestions and encouragement. My husband taught high school biology, and one student credited him with her becoming a teacher herself. Thank you for bringing attention and honor to a profession that is often underrated, and to a woman who was apparently an expert practitioner. And congratulations to you for absorbing what she said and putting it to such good use in your professional life.

Good luck in the contest. I'm sure, if you win, you'll share the victory with Mrs. Fryar.

Oh, Ms. Fryer must be so proud of you! A teacher always hopes they can make a difference in the life of a student, so I'm sure she was happy to know she influenced you! I'm glad you learned to really think in high school. I think it took university for me to think logically and to be open to new ideas and opportunities. I so enjoyed this story! Yay for teachers!

This is not just an effective tribute to Mrs Fryar, it's an articulate and convincing example of how the right approach for the right person can coax maximised results. I like that you show how her lessons carried you forward throughout life.

Mike, thank you for the review. I sent her a copy of the story and wrote back that she was the lucky one, because of all the kids she got to know. She is an amazing woman. Terry.

i love your confidence, and this is the recipe for success:" have had the opportunity to work with a large group of physicians, business leaders, and philanthropists from all walks of life.

When my two partners and I started our business, one said, "Terry, I don't know why anyone would pay us for this service."

"Chuck, in the next thirty minutes, we will write up six reasons companies should hire us, and then Kirby and I will go out and convince them to do just that."

We did. Kirby said many years later, "You convinced us it would work."

Mrs. Maridell Fryar convinced me it would work!

Shirley, I did send it to her, and a couple of her other students I still have contact with. But she knows how I feel, I have told her before. Thank you for reading and for your kind words. Terry.

Some people know how to get the best out of their students, to get them to apply themselves to their abilities.

What a great experience you had. I think if we polled successful people, they have all been influenced by one specific teacher during their lives, who played a major role in who they became. I have always wanted to be one of those teachers... Kate xx

Kate, thank you for the review and for creating the contest. Mrs. Fryar's are indeed an amazing lot: a couple of Judges, dozens of lawyers, teachers, Ph. Ds, business leaders, newspaper columnist, a two-time Peabody Award winner for broadcasting, an Acadamy Award winner, a five-star general...and a lot of business leaders...Terry.

Blessings to the Maridell Fryars of the world!

My teacher/angel/life coach was Mr. Kaplan... he saw in me what I could not see in myself.

I struggled in math, and (clever teacher)--he pulled me aside and asked me to do him the favor of helping some other students...with math!

Of course, I had to learn it to tutor them!

He turned a negative into a positive. I believed in myself because he believed in me!

Best teacher I ever had...and I went back to visit him every year until his passing a few years back.

Love this, Terry.

Karenina

Karenina, interestingly is that another member thought I was just "Blowing my own horn" with that story. I think my response was a little bit bad, but I told him I was blowing Mrs. Fryar's horn. Terry.
