What an inspiring, wonderful story Terry an a beautiful tribute to your teacher, Mrs Fryar. Sometimes in our long lives we can reflect on those who have contributed to making us better 'selves'. I had a French teacher, Madame Moussali whom I thought formidable but of all my teachers I remember most affectionately. She was strong, confident, commanded respect but had a heart of gold. Franky

I absolutely LOVE this story! Here are my reasons:
1. It is beautifully written in a logical, clear, easy to follow way that tells the story concisely and intelligently.
2. It is a wonderful story of inspiration and caring. It shows (rather than telling) how one dedicated teacher can make such a huge difference in the life of one student. (and by extrapolation, countless others as well)
3. It actually made me get a bit teary, thinking of how Mrs. Fryar is going to feel when she reads this. It is the deepest hope of any dedicated teacher to be able to make a difference in her/his students' lives. She obviously succeeded. Thank you for sharing this with us, and with her as well. You are, indeed, a winner!

I absolutely LOVE this story! Here are my reasons:

Thank you very much. You are right about her students included: A five star general, a two-time winning Peabody winner for broadcasting, an Academy Award winner for writing, dozens of lawyers, teachers, professors, PH.D.'s, a national newspaper columnist, business leaders, Director of a national museum, business leaders, and on and on. I can completely relate because I had that one English teacher in school, albeit a bit late in the day, who was behind my work and encouraged me. Sandra, thank you! She is an incredible woman. Some of her other students: an Academy Award-winning writer, A two-time Peabody-winning broadcaster, a nationally syndicated newspaper columnist, about twenty-five lawyers that I know about, many teachers, and many Ph.D. Professors, A director of a large national museum, lots of business folks and CEO's of at least 3 companies, A five-star general, and others. She did have a lot of talented students (unlike me) and she brought the best out of the worst (like me) and watched the others grow.
When she read this story, she said, "Terry, I was the winner, because of all you kids!" Terry.
