I loved this. You did a lot of research! When we moved from Tennessee to Louisiana, my son's teacher called him a Yankee. My son saw him after class and asked him not to call him that. The teacher replied that anyone north of I-10 was a Yankee. My son was given the good citizen award for that year and a scholarship to LSU. He chose Vandy instead.

You never know who you might run into. This is a large world. And it is strange when you run into your kin in different states. This world is a circle. It is destiny. One year, I was in the recovery room from a gall bladder operation.
Come to find out, my husband was in the lobby talking to his cousin, one he had not seen for decades. His wife was in the next recovery room. They were also from Alabama, and like us, they lived in Michigan.
There have been many incidents that I have encountered. Thank you for sharing.

John, thank you for the review. Interesting that you pick up on Captain Wirz. I too thought it might be more to his story. My concern was that it was taking me away from my primary story.
But the only guy convicted of a war crime in the Civil War is worth looking at. If you find a story, use it. Terry.

As a Georgian, growing up we didn't learn a lot about Andersonville, though I had heard of it. I also heard of brothers who fought on opposite sides in the Civil War. That would've been a sad thing for the families. Anyway, congratulations on a good story and for All Time Best!

It is intriguing how, when and where our ancestors got together and we are now here because of that happy coincidence.
Traveling through the southern states, the Civil War is still a big topic and many southerners are still bitter about the loss. I was surprised when visiting Arlington Cemetery to learn that the entire cemetery and adjoining land was once the estate of Robert E. Lee, appropriated by the government after the Civil War ended.
