The biggest topic in our household (wife and I, 70 & 73) is how rotten it is getting old. The Beatles song "When I'm 64" says it all. Fortunately, although we both have the myriad of ailments, aches and pains that aging brings with it, we are still hopelessly in love. That is the second-best thing that holds us together through this trying time. The First? Why, the Lord Jesus Christ, of course and our love for and faith in him.

Thank you so much for reminding me once again how rotten I feel :))

See, I really can award six-stars. :))

Gary, you are a super guy. thanks for the 6! Didn't mean to make you feel rotten, but as I am older than you, :) I can say those things. You sound like you have a wonderful marriage - happy, happy! I've been widowed twice. You are fortunate.
Anyway, thank you very much for your kindness!

What you write is as good a summary as can be, describing what aging is about. Can't run from it, can we, so enjoy the time we have left. Age can take the spring from my step but dang it to heave I will continue forward until the earth covers me up

This is really good. You have all the bits and pieces about aging down pat.
One thing is certain, we can forget our latest gaff, because that is what we forgot. Best of luck in the aging contest.

Haha, hilarious, PL. I enjoyed every word. Your rhyme scheme
is great as were the many examples. I loved the lines about
the cold aisle in the grocery store. Your ending gave readers
much to think about growing old gracefully. Of course, there's
much talk of aches, pains, and meds. But don't forget grand kids,
too,
Best wishes in the contest, Jan

Thanks, Jan. I have one precious grandchild who I love to pieces - but I wish I had more. I just hope I live to see her marry, if she chooses to, AND to hold a great grandchild. But time's a'fleetin'. She just laughs and tells me I'm young. yeah. right.
Thanks for all your very kind words!

This is gorgeous: both realistic and fun. I also like the structure of the poem.
Growing old gracefully is difficult for me. My mum was the same.
Once, I saw an interview with Michael Caine in which they asked him what he though about ageing. He said it was better than the alternative. I agree most completely: my kid sister died almost four years ago at the age of 48.
And by the way, you look great in your profile pic.
PS. I wanted to give you six stars and for some reason it doesn't let me change it.
Thanks for sharing.

    thanks, Heather.
Don't know why it won't but I appreciate the thought.
I'm sorry about your sister! My sister is 2 years younger than I and at the moment has Covid. I had it for a month really bad and my daughter got me well, bless her, so, we're working on my sister.
Thanks re: my pix. That was 3 years ago. Guess I should change it.
Anyway, thank you for all your lovely comments.

thanks!! I think she's pretty much well. She had it about 2 weeks. I can tell she is because she's hungry. :)

Excellent thoughts about aging. It's a hard choice to just be yourself when you see women on TV, who have to be in their 50s at least, all glamourous blonde perfection. It must take them a lot of time to do that. As you mention in your poem, as we age, we experience the aches and pains as well as memory loss. And those wrinkles! I dare to wear short sleeves, but wouldn't try a sleeveless top. You're right. We might as well make the best of it. Excellent rhyme and flow. Best of luck in the contest. judi

thanks, Judi! and for the lovely 6!
I wear some short sleeves, too, when I'm working outside, but the tops of my arms are pitiful, so when I'm out with friends - sleeves.
Thanks again for your long, kind review and wonderful 6!
I have a hard time keeping up with all your posts. You are one prolific writer! And a very good one!
