I loved this, Ann! What heart-warming memories to fall back on. A place of family and good old fashion conversation. Our communication skills of old are disappearing in the turmoil of technology. I hope our younger generation can see that we still need to put our hands in our pockets and verbalize.

I agree with you!!!! There is so much 'communication' that kids today have a difficult time learning how to truly communicate. Now, if I mention something to one of grandkids or even kids and I'm not quite right on the details, they immediately provide me with the current info via google!!!!! I tell them: Look, I'm just telling you a story; I don't want it fact checked. I want it heard! lol

There are pluses and minuses to today's technology, but I'm afraid of the loss of some true down time.

Well, let me get off of my soapbox here!!! Thanks again for reading and commenting. ann

Ah, Writer, you PUT US THERE on that front porch with you and your family. I can almost hear those birds, and I DO hear your father launching into that night's theme. This was an era we can only remember and I agree that we should take time out at day's end to find peace for ourselves. Rod

Ann, outstanding writing your words just flow off the page and create an image that the reader is there on the porch with you watching, listening, and absorbing the atmosphere of the simpler times. You write about "Daddy setting the agenda" in two places. I think you may only need it in one, not sure which one works better, but you might take a look at it.

And, don't forget about talking to a friend at the day's end and "Laughing!"

Exceptional work! Terry.

I think you are right. I will take another look at the repeated references to Daddy's agenda.

Looking forward to talking to a friend and laughing.

Love the stars!! Thanks so much.

Thank you for sharing this with us. Yes, I honestly believe the loss of sitting around as a family is what is missing from our society today. We sat around and talked when I was growing up. We also had mandatory family dinners, where we would sit and talk. I enjoyed reading.
