A very nice poem for this contest, good luck. For me, there is a lot of universal truth in the poem about aging. I can see the couple you wrote about in my mind and think, "Yes that is exactly the way it is." Excellent work. Terry

Thank you for reading and rating my poem. Yes, we all know these folks. In rural areas you encounter them more. Thanks

Great post for the contest. Love this poem about growing old and contentedly becoming set in their ways. I loved this line in particular: Tight-lipped ease see-saws rhythmically between them.

Thank you, Theo! (May, I call you that?) One would be quite lucky to find such a comfortable love. You are always so generous about my writing, and it is appreciated. Have a relaxing and safe 4th of July!

This takes me back to my southern roots. This is what I envision in my memories of the good old days. When my grandparents lived and the two were happy as could be. After a hard day of working, they still could smile.
Only they never locked the door. Thank you for bringing out the great memories from my mind.

This is an excellent portrayal of an aging couple in love. Doing their nighttime rituals keeps them ready for the next day.
My favorite line is Comfort cloaks the absence of conversation. This one line says so much about the number of convenient rituals that tend to placate the senses in otherwise younger couples. They all share the idea of comfort.
Thank you for sharing your work,
Jesse

Yeah, we're pretty much there. But we don't actually have a porch. Just a nice backyard where we sit and watch the blue jays fight the squirrels for food. We do our best to eat sensibly. But, we don't like Jello.

Comfort cloaks the absence of conversation.
eliminating the need
to voice the when, what, how and why
of the Jell-O years of their twosome.

We do share these days a comfortable silence.

Thank you for reading and rating my poem. The Jell-O years of their twosome means the shaky years of their relationship. Glad you enjoyed it.

love this poem about the love of an aging couple the words left unsaid, the moments shared, the love they have for each other as they cope together with their aging bodies.

I particularly liked the line: Comfort cloaks the absence of conversation. When you are truly at ease with someone, talk is not always required. But that's rare.

Aging isn't so bad when you share trusted and comfortable space with another human being.

Your words are as relaxed and carefree as the characters in this poem. Lovely.

I truly enjoyed this expressive, moving descriptive poem. It conveys a wonderful message about enduring love, which sometimes doesn't even need words ad they navigte their way through daily life and doctor's orders! "Tight-lipped ease see-saws rhythmically between them" and "Comfort cloaks the absence of conversation"--lines that call for a 6!

Our habits change as we get older Sandra, and we have to watch our weight and make sure we take exercise and those little ice cream treats are enjoyed with much more vigour than when we were young, I enjoyed your words about the home comforts that that become something we deeply enjoy when we age, love Dolly x

Excellent entry for the What Think You of Aging writing prompt contest.

I enjoyed reading your poem about comfortable relationtions. It's written in your own unique style. Your writing flows naturally and it's easy to understand. Good luck in the contest.

Well done
