That is a tough situation, Wendy. I mentioned the incident that happened to us. Being in the country, I didn't think we needed a fence, but I was wrong.

Such a sad and terrible death for poor Shep! You must have been devastated. Thank you for reviewing. I appreciate it, as always.

Wendy, this is a horrible situation and very dangerous and terrifying. I hope you protect yourself and your visiting family by calling the authorities without guilt. Man, this one got to me.

Yes, I think I will phone the RSPCA tomorrow and see what they say. Thanks so much for your concern and care. When I think that Sunny could have been killed! I am normally out on a Thursday morning, and he would have been home alone, and could well have been in the back yard.
    Thanks again.

Your concern is well stated, and I share your distress about the neglect of these poor dogs.
Keeping an Alsatian and a Staffy without care for their wellbeing is asking for trouble. Both breeds are capable of being dangerous, especially if neglected. Luckily you were home or else poor Sunny might've been chomped.
And of course it isn't the dogs' fault.
I think a conversation with SPCA could be a good start, as well as stating you point of view to the neighbours.

Yes, I am just thankful S was not outside. I am normally out on a Thursday morning and he is free to go in or out as he pleases. Thanks so much for reviewing. I think I will talk to the RSPCA tomorrow.

I had a neighbour once who left their dog free in their very small back yard and it cried and barked all day long. When I had visitors I had to ask them to leave their dog in their front yard so that my friends could sleep in the back bedrooms facing the yard where they left their dog. They kindly did this as they knew that the dog barked all day long. Even when they came home from work, they still left the dog outside in the back yard. (Fortunately they sold their house and moved on). Some people should never have dogs as they don't care for them properly, it is tragic Wendy. If you call the RSPCA to your neighbours you might have a war on your hands! Securing the fence and protecting your own dog and your own property is paramount here, how very sad your story is Wendy, love Dolly x

Thanks Dolly. I appreciate your review. If the parents don?t come over before tomorrow night to organise repairs I will ring the RSPCA. We?ve made a temporary repair, and hope it will hold. I?m looking after a sick 7 year old tomorrow, so I need to know it will be attended to ASAP.

Few things inspire more anger in me than cruelty towards animals. If you need to use a taser on your dog, you've either mistreated it badly or you're incredibly uncaring. My instinct would be to contact the RSPCA, even if just to raise the concern, but I share your worry about what might happen to the dogs (and, less importantly, your relationship with your neighbours).

I wish I had a good suggestion to make. I really hope the situation gets sorted out quickly.

I totally agree. The trouble is, that if the dogs are taken away, they'll probably get another, as I heard they wanted a guard dog for when he works at night. Our area has always been a safe area however, and no-one else has a guard dog! We've pushed the fence back as far as we can, and put up a temporary steel panel held in place with a steel stake ... just so Sunny can walk freely in his own yard until it's properly repaired. Thank you for reviewing and for your care. Greatly appreciated.

How horrific Wendy. And what a dilemma you are placed in. My reaction would be to report things to the RSPCA, and hope that the dogs find kind new owners. As things stand, they are not happy and are obviously being maltreated. And life is ging to become worse than uncomfortable for you and your family.

Thank you Katherine. I am just so glad I was here and could prevent Sunny from going out the back! Still trying to think what to do. I'll go around again tonight and try to catch the parents at home.

That's so horrible! I'm so glad you and Sunny are safe as those mistreated dogs seemed to be trained to be vicious. Perhaps they only have them to scare off trespassers not as pets to love. That's really sad. Will pray that you make the right decision and that the neighbors change in their attitude toward animals!

Thank you Helen. I am praying to make the right decision. It is upsetting. I believe they got them as guard dogs for when he works at night. But our area is a very safe one!
