A delightful poem about Chester. He had such a big personality and "smell.'
While the seal roll was not funny at the time, he certainly made his memory last forever.
Thank you for the smile, I enjoyed this well-written and fun poem.
Good luck in the contest.

Thanks Mary. Chester was 'all dog' - a good working dog and companion, with a big heart for love.

This is a very funny piece, but I must relate it was your fate likely because you fed him something that wasn't a plate of gourmet his stomach accepted gratuitously.

You made me smile here Lisa, I thought at first glance that that was a croc in the water! When dogs fart the smell is usually horrendous and I know that at my daughters home the dog gets blamed for all the bad smells, even when there are human ones! Ha ha ha, I'm loving the sentiments here and the rhymes, an amusing write and a pleasure to read, love Dolly x

Yikes! - no croc, not in NZ.
Chester was 'all dog' - a good working dog and companion, with a big heart for love.

Lol. Dead seal - no! That would not be very pleasant, naughty dog! Otherwise Chester sounds great (well, apart from his farts). A delightful poem, great fun. Best wishes.

Yes, it was disgusting... and then Chester wouldn't go into the ocean (even though he's a water dog) so we could wash him and we had to drive home in the car with him stinking.
-
Sorry for laughing. Lol. My previous dog ran off one time and rolled in something horrid, green but unidentifiable. She looked very abashed and ashamed when she returned when I called her, wouldn't look at me. I had some baby wipes in the car which I used - and then called the dog wash man to come urgently! I think she also was glad to get a thorough bath.
-
The difference between a boy dog perhaps and a girl dog - Chester wanted to show off, yours wanted to get clean.

We had a dog who loved to roll in smelly dead things Jenny, , and in fact anything smelly. Heh heh, but he was a lovely dog, very good with the kids, beautifully written dear Helen, you're a treasure, blessings Roy

Chester had stinky habits, but he too was good with kids.

This is a good poem. The rhyme scheme is consistent throughout. Your message is clearly presented. The font size is large enough to make reading easy. The visual of Chester is adorable. If I had one suggestion, I would try to find another rhyme word for ear, so you are not repeating ear, ear as end rhyme. Well-done! Good luck in the contest!

Thanks for your comments, and for pointing out the 'ear' end rhyme repetition. I adjusted the stanza to read:
He sprawled on the couch whenever he could,
but then he looked guilty; I?m sure he understood,
that "No", meant "No!". How could that be unclear?
He had a way around me, grinning ear-to-ear.

That's a "Tony Tiger Great" fix! lol You are welcome.
-
hahaha... I had to look up who Tony Tiger is/was - now i know it is about Kellogs Frosted Flakes mascot. Grrrr
-
LOL~ You must not be American??
-
No. I am an Australian, now living in New Zealand.

I wish to one day visit both of those nations. I had an old friend in Perth. We met in Berlin. When we both departed Germany, we lost touch. The Galapagos Islands I must one day see.

Thanks for sharing the meaning of "pong" and here I was thinking it was just the earliest video game. But of course, I could figure it out from the context. Seems like Chester is a loyal dog but more loyal to his man, apparently. Cats seem to be one-human creatures, too.
Best wishes in the contest!
