Hi Cassie,
George sounds a like a sweet cat... patient and kind. This is a nice story for your entry in the "Here Kitty, Kitty" writing prompt.
It sounds like George was a stray, living somewhere in the apple orchard. I'm sure his favorite meal was apple sauce! And the warm tea you gave him at your house. Some cats are bad. They're greedy, bossy pigs. We have a couple of them... Chico and Raymond. Our gentle giant was Roger. He was a black & white Maine Coon cat. Like George, he was a "Gentle Giant". Twice the size of our other cats, he'd run rather than fight. But he got cancer, and we had to put him down. Such a shame. He was only 12 years old.
Good Luck in the contest, my dear!
Hugs,
Kimbob

Dear Kimbob, Thank you for your review and the five stars. George was already living in the orchard when we moved into the adjacent house. This was back in my early childhood (1943.). He was a very gentle cat, never fighting with other males and always allowing the mother cat to eat his food before he had a chance to eat it
himself. When he saved Dad's baby chickens from death from cold, George's luck changed dramatically. He slept on any bed he fancied, was nursed by anyone who wanted a cat on their lap and was fed in the kitchen by the stove. Usually a saucer of milk to finish off with. When we left the next people to live there were as fond of him as we were and cared for him and the rest of his tribe as diligently as we'd done. Sad about Roger. 12 years is a fair age for a cat (or a dog), but I've had cats live past their 18th birthday.Maine coon cats are renowned for their size aren't they? Are thy the ones with no tail and a rear end that's higher than its head? cheers Cass

No, Cassie. Roger had beautiful tail. He was a gorgeous cat!

George sounded like a great kitty. I enjoyed your sweet
story, Cass. Your descriptions of him and the surroundings
were great. He did seem like a gentle giant. I have seen
animals wait for others to eat before they eat. It's amazing
what we learn from animals, and our kitties show us everyday.
Best wishes in the contest, Jan

Dear Jan, Thank you for reviewing my work. George was a gentle giant. To everyone and everything. The people who moved into the house after us were totally fascinated by his ways and even sent us a photo of him sitting in the middle of a passel o'cats. Back straight, front paws side by side, tail wrapped aroung his rump, all neat and tidy. Yes that was George.

What an accommodating cat that Gentleman George was, sharing and caring, so good-natured. Your poem has effective rhyming and rhythm to carry the narrative along.
The contest requirement says 'picture needed' so I hope you can find one that looks like George.

Dear Lisa May, Thankyou for reviewing my work.I did find a pcture for a illustration, but I might have been a bit late with it. Here's hoping!!! George was a rare cat whose mission in life ( or so it seemed ) was to look after all his fellow creatures and keep them from harm.He will have crossed the "Rainbow Bridge"many decades ago, bu I'll see him "over there". Of that I am absolutely certain

Some animals have particularly caring qualities. It will be lovely for you to be reunited.

Dear Dolly, Thank you for reviewing my work.Yes, George was a very
special cat, with special attributes that I have yet to see in another cat. Bear in mind that the era in which George lived was post WW2
so I've had a long time to look.

Dear Helen, Thankyou for reviewing my work. I did find a picture, although it might not be allowed 'cos I was late attaching it.We'll see Won't we? George was a tabby and white cat with big, golden-green eyes.He had a torn ear from a fight he'd been in and a lot of scars on his big body. But he was gentle and chivalrous,a rare word to describe a cat
