Such an interesting family history that you pursued and wrote about! Your writing is interesting and perfect. I was spellbound when reading your account of your relations. I am sorry that I have no sixers left. Evi

Wow Terry, this is an amazing story. And I am guessing that you had much to do with Ed's marker and eternal remembrance to all that see it. However I am honored to be one that will know of his life and history if I ever got that way, I would certainly look it up. (we plan on going south next fall for our next long trip)
I am a people observer, as you know enough about my life and that I have known just about every type. And these people, mostly his father that turned Ed away, is so hard for me to fathom where & what their hearts were made of. You not being a lover of cats initially, turned out to be a cat daddy and so compassionately cared for Zoey's cats when she passed away. So it's sad that these people or anyone could not love and care for a baby, but thankfully there were those that did.
I truly am always taken in by your stories as you know and are related to some fascinating people and/or characters. Lol, regardless it's always a pleasure to read? Thanks my friend for another captivating piece!

Debi, thank you for your review and your very kind words. I did enjoy the research and after nine months of red tape with VA. I did get the marker. Terry.

This is another great piece of family history you've researched and shared with us, Terry. It mush be very satisfying to discover things about unknown family members, and you've done an excellent job of telling this one.

I liked the manner, which you summarized Ed's and the struggles he had starting at the death of his mother and the ordeals that followed. Did he ever meet his half-brother in person?

Thanks for that brief glimpse into the backstory of one of FanStory's most productive authors.
Just two simple suggestions;
Para 6, 1st sentence: (patriarchial) should be (patriarchal)
Para 10, 1st sentence: (ninety-two year old) should be (ninety-two-year-old) hyphens
Always the interviewer, aren't you? I see how you got started into that line now.
Very interesting and historical.

Gary, thank you for reading and reviewing. I don't know how I missed those two mistakes. I had an issue with both of them when I was writing the story and still got them wrong. Thank you! Terry.

Hi Terry, Ed was born in 1911. I don't think that Ed's father didn't want him. He had no one to take care of an infant. There were no childcare places in those days. Men worked long hours. Ed had chances at life, but he was a lost soul. He couldn't find his place in life. He didn't belong here and he didn't belong there--or so he thought. This story reminds me about my husband's family. Just sharing--his mother had 7 boys, and put the last three up for adoption because she could not care for them--husband took off and she had mental health issues. Three of the four remaining boys went to live with his grandparents, and the oldest was put up for adoption at age 12. He remained at the orphanage until he was 18, and then he joined the Air Force. Terry, I am happy that Ed got a marker for his grave. Everyone should be remembered. Everyone's life counts. Well done story. Thank you for sharing a piece of your family history with us. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer

Margaret, thank you for reading. Uncovering family histories is fun and surprising. I don't know if my father knew his father was in prison a couple of times. Your husband's experience was very sad. Terry.

It is great Ed has a tombstone marker. Ed was a nice looking man. And he went through much. It was a shame his dad did not want him. Thankfully, his Aunt Lee stood her ground and did not care what his father thought. Thank you for sharing this family story.

I enjoyed reading your family's story. It is a lovely story which also tells a bit about you. I know you spent lots of time on the research for this piece. Genealogy is one of my interests. We have done some research on our family and got some surprises! Good work!

I love genealogy and the family history it provides. It was wonderful reading his story. He had his problems, as we all do, but as you said, he is remembered. You did a great job. Shirley

You have obviously done a lot of extensive research on your family tree, and it is good that you were able to place a marker on his grave site. He had a sad life, but at least he is remembered now.
Well done.
