I love that you intersperse the family history elements with plenty of historical context and additional detail. I feel as though I learnt lots while I was reading this. Many thanks for sharing :-)

Thank you Mike. Actually I've learned quite a bit of history myself while digging for my roots.

You are very dedicated to searching out all the hints you find in your family tree, Beth. This is a complicated one, but you've done a wonderful job of tracing it all and sharing it with us. Thank you.

Thank you Judy. I really appreciate the review and nice comments.
I'm hoping one of my children or grandchildren will find this interesting enough to pursue genealogy themselves.

Gee Beth! Fascinating and precisely written. Your family has avery intricate tree!! And my mom married at 15 too. I found old photos and she was beautiful. But youre fortunate to know so much about your ancestors. I was never told about mine.
Wonderful chapter my friend!!

Thank you for that great review. I didn't know much further back than my grandparents. I didn't learn all this until I joined Ancestry.com and had access to other people research and then I started doing my own. My folks didn't know all I've found out about our family. When DNA became popular they could tell who your relatives were. I really appreciate the six stars.

Your research is fascinating, Beth! I hope your grandchildren will read this as they learn American History as this is so personal to them! I think the relationships would be easier to see if you could use pictures of the genealogy structures. It would help to break up chunks of text, too.
But I don't have an account which allows me to put my own pictures inside the post only the first picture. Dean used to use something like Photobucket...

One suggestion:
her family was Jewish in nationality (ethnicity) I think "nationality" would refer to a nation. They were German by nationality, Jewish in ethnicity, but Christian in religious beliefs. Just my thinking.

Thank you Helen, You know I love your reviews. Life is a learning experience and the reason I'm on this site is to learn to write better. You are a great teacher there is much you don't get in college and even if you do, you may forget. Thanks for pointing out the difference in nationality and ethnicity.

You're so welcome! I enjoyed learning history from your post, Beth.
The concept of Jewish ethnicity is very complex. We know about the Israelites in the Bible. But after the diaspora, it's anyone's guess. Some without genes tied to those Israelites became Jews in religion. The European Jews are Ashkenazi and possibly are a mix of ethnicities. The Sephardic Jews are more African but they have a genetic marker tying them to the original Israelites. It's really complex!

As Artie Johnson, the little guy who wore the German helmet on Rowan and Martin's television show "laugh-in" back in the late 1960s or early 1970s would say: very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Lol, I hope you really find something of interest here and aren't just reading it because you feel you need too. I find some of this stuff I'm learning interesting, but it probably because I related to these people.

I'm not the type to read just to be reading, no matter how much I like someone. I never cared about anyone or anything much from the past until you got me reading your posts. Now, I find it fascinating that you can go back and learn about all the previous generations. I mean, if it weren't for DNA sampling, I might never have know I had another daughter. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for saying that. I feel much better. I think it is fascinating about the daughter you didn't know about. It is so great that you want to get to know her.

Thank you! I just wish I had known and could have been there to have given her a better life for all those years. :-)

I enjoyed this fascinating tale unfolding in a dramatic sweep of history, covering a terrible battle (how awful to leave the dead unburied), land purchases, religious backgrounds, and new beginnings - either through immigration or marriage.

Comments:

He had a large track of land (maybe the word is 'tract' rather than 'track')

against the better trained 1,800 soldiers lead (led) by the Spanish military leaders.

came to the America in 1727 (perhaps this should be Americas)

part of a group of German immigrants who were imported from Rotterdam (imported seems an odd word to use - it makes them sound like merchandise or livestock.)

He and his wife were a part of a group (the first 'a' is unnecessary)

Germany was trying (add to) rid the country of all full blooded Jews

This is an interesting read, Beth. It is evident you
researched the info well. I enjoyed reading your
continuing saga. You make history more interesting
with your personal touches. I believe your children
will enjoy having a copy for themselves of your book.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

Louisiana purchase--Purchase (way at the beginning).

I believe this paragraph needs to be several sentences--not
just one.

While the Seitz nationality is of Jewish origins, apparently the family no longer held to the Jewish traditions because when Johann Peter Seitz, born in 1684, came to the America in 1727, he was part of a group of German immigrants who were imported from Rotterdam on the ship, William and Sarah, along with 400 members of a German Reform Church led by George Michael Weiss. They left the Palatinate to escape persecution.

Thank you Jan. I think you are correct about the long paragraph. I split it into four sentences.

Another off your fantastic posts concerned with your family genealogy that is fascinating in its dimensional sense, it just seems to grow, I know when I saw the family tree on my mother's family, there were names interwoven with ours, discovered two doors up, there a family with one of those names, Westall, one of that family married my best friend's family. Who knows? Well done, great job blessings Roy

There gets so many names so quickly that it impossible to remember all of them, and yet a bit of the the DNA that runs through their veins runs through yours. DNA is amazing Thank you for the great review.

I haven't found my Jewish ancestors, yet, but my DNA says I have Jewish in me. Hmm. I can't wait to find it. I am enjoying reading this and the Texas history. Texans are proud of their history.

Thank you for the great review. My DNA hasn't shown the Jewish ancestors yet but they do show I am related to Peter Sides. The nationality changes sometimes. I have a little Native American too but so far they haven't shown it, but they have changed the percentages several times. They removed my Irish that which showed a large percentage at one time and I'm not sure they should. My dad's family was from Ireland, but earlier they had migrated from France.

I'm supposed to Native American in me too, but none shows up on DNA.
