Hello leather, a poem of truth. No One wants to stop and pick up a penny anymore, but I still do. The young people walk away from the cash registrar without taking not just pennies, but other coins too--unbelievable. Small stores are getting use to not giving out penny change, but I wait for mine. It's still money. The way the economy is going, some of these people will be wishing they had some of the pennies and other coins that they walked away from.
Your poem reads and flows well and has good alliteration as well as internal rhyming--nice. Well chosen photo. Prompted some lively discussion here ... a penny for your thoughts? As this is a contest entry, I wish you good luck. LateBloomer

Thanks so much for your review, stars, and well-wishes. And thanks even more for your comments about how teenagers regard the worth of change in any amount. I found that an interesting read in itself.

After wondering why there's been such a problem with penny shortages during the pandemic, I did a little studying to learn that pennies cost more to make than the penny they are worth. Strange but true. Thanks for sharing. I'm waiting for those short stories . . . :-)

Darn...You really keep on top of things! Okay, I may give the 250-word flash fiction a try, but I may also chicken out. In the meantime, thanks for reading and reviewing the little blurbs that I put out.
I may start picking up older pennies just to keep up with inflation-if that's possible.

What do we really have to fear or be chicken of in life? We are here for a short time, and for most of us, we waist the biggest part getting our nerve up. LOL.

You're right.

Your decision to go with a picture of foreign coins saying that they weren't worth taking a photo of is funny and truthful. American pennies are definitely not worth picking up off the ground. I never do and everyone I know doesn't either. Except for coin collectors they are worth the metal they are made of.
In the third line of this poem, I love the internal rhymes of found and ground.
I believe that pretty soon pennies will become obsolete and even other coins of change and we will only use paper money to purchase with. Also, Credit cards are preferred these days instead of paying with cash. Soon all cash will be gone and we will only buy on credit. Anyway, this is what I believe the future holds for us.
Your poem is food for thought and I appreciate you letting me share my beliefs.

I agree, that coins may have a limited "shelf life" because of our economy and inflation. You may want to pick a few up as they may have antique value in no time. Just kidding.
I enjoy reading your comments and appreciate your reading and rating the poem. Best wishes.
Keep cool. It is predicted that it will get to 102 degrees today in my area!

Your area? Where do you live?
I live by the west coast so there is usually a cool breeze along with warmer weather. I love it where I live!

I live in Augusta, Georgia--home of the Augusta National. My next-door neighbor's pine tree is turning brown and dying. They are on vacation, but I left a note on their door about the tree.
If I stop posting, it will probably be because their tree did me in.
-
Georgia, huh! I am sure it gets pretty hot and humid down there.
Don't let that tree do you in!
I am just getting to know you, and I wouldn't want anything to happen to you now!

It is an interesting conundrum about our economy. The metals in our pennies minted before 1982 are worth today about 2.5 cents. Some may be worth something!
Good rhyming poem about valuing currency. I count only 19 syllables. You could change "They're" to "They are." Just a suggestion.

Good morning. I value your suggestions and did some double-checking with a syllable counter. It poem came out as 20 syllables with either the use of "They're" or 'they are'. But, I will change it to 'they are' simply because the count it is questionable. Thanks for keeping an eye out for me.
Yep, I may be picking up pennies, especially those from before 1982, just to keep ahead of inflation. Thanks for the review and stars.
