I really enjoyed reading your poem and I think you did a wonderful job with this writing challenge. When I was a kid growing up in the 50's, I found a quarter on the ground and was thrilled at how much candy I could buy with it. And let's not even start with the inflation we're experiencing these days. Regards, Lilly

Thanks, Lilly, for the review and all the stars. I know that quarter you found in the 50s had to be like a bonanza.

Author,
I like your 20 syllable poem. It reminds me that Pennie's went a long way when I was a child in the 60's. We could buy an armful of candy for just 3 cents. (I know that sounds old, but it really wasn't that long ago. My dad was raised during the depression, and he told me one could buy a candy bar for two cents then, but rarely did his family have even spare pennies during that time.ð???
Nice nostalgic poem for me.
Good luck in the contest.
Blessings ,
Cindy

Thank you, Cindy, for the stars, review, well-wishes, and blessings.
A candy bar for two cents that's hard to imagine. Times sure have changed.

This short poem says so much about time. In olden days a penny used to buy you a weeks worth of food but now it won't even buy you a penny sweet. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing. Have a great weekend.

Thanks for everything-stars, the review, comments, and well-wishes. I was just in a restaurant that had broken up packages of candy so they could sell the individual pieces. Even so, nothing was priced for a penny.

I could buy four toffees with one penny when I was a child, over 70 years. No such coin now. Your twenty syllable poem, is very well done, you've made it rhyme, and your words are perfect for the poor penny. Well done and good luck in the contest. :)) Sandra xx

Thanks, Sandra, for your review and well-wishes. How well I know what you are talking about because I am over 75.
    Thanks again.

They don't get much respect, for sure...

Although when found it's said to bring good luck...well, if found "heads up"!

Neither cents nor sense seems to be good currency these days!

Crazy!

I always heard they bring good luck, but I didn't know that it only happens if the penny is 'heads up.' I have learned so much from reviewers. Thanks for your review and all the stars.

Well- MY Grand mom told me that and she was never wrong! (smile).

We don't even have pennies now, nor even one and two cent pieces, and even five cents and ten are scarce as they are almost worthless. Your poem captures memories of former times when they were worth something. A penny found used to mean good luck - but even that is probably no longer relevant. Lol.

Thanks, Wendy, for your review and comments. I have always picked up pennies-originally for luck, now because of luck (hopefully) and inflation. They won't buy anything by themselves but help out with tax.

Leather,
I think I remember something called a penny - probably a collector's item today. Even when the penny was a legal coin in use, it didn't buy much.
Still, fun to remember - 'pennies from heaven' and 'a penny for your thoughts'!

I know what you mean. I think pennies are on the way out, and nickels may follow.
Thanks for the review and all the stars.

This brings old memories of my childhood back in England when pre-decimalisation, there were 240 pennies to the pound, and two of the would buy a pound of potatoes! Farthings were still in circulation - just.
One could even buy a halfpenny's worth of sweets - and I often did!

What nostalgic memories you have of your time in England. Just think of the price of a pound of potatoes today!
Thank you for the read and review.

This is a cute poem. Pennies found on the ground are considered lucky coins in my rural area of Virginia. Your presentation is very nice. I like the large, easy to read, colored font and the visual. Good luck in the contest.

They are considered lucky down here in Georgia, too.
Thanks for the stars and review.
Again, you deserve most of the credit for the presentation because you helped me out when I was initially clueless.
    P.S. I like your picture.

Find a penny pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck! Apparently, no one has heard of that and I do see where you're going with this idea. Pennies have a bad rep. Thanks for sharing. :)

Hi, Boogienights, and thank you for the review and stars. I have heard a lot of different feedback about pennies. One of the more interesting ones was that you only get good luck if you find a penny that is 'heads up.'
