Such a commonsense approach to this whole problem. All anyone has to do is think and they should come up with the same description you just outlined. Restricting gun ownership will only make things worse, then only the bad guys will have guns. I say, open up ownership and even open carry. At least the bad guys will see what they are up against if they are considering trying anything stupid.
I like the line "but who knows, they do a lot of dumb things." Ain't it the truth. Where do they come up with some of this stuff?
Thanks for ranting my rant. Good job!

Thank you. Yep, the government is not helping things with their stupidity. All they want to do is control the people and make lots of money doing it. So far they have succeeded very well.

I think you give a very realistic view of the situation in the country. I myself am against most guns, maybe in the case of hunting you could make a case for it, but in the world we live in today the codes of the eighteenth century are basically outdated. When the constitution spoke of the right to bear arms, they were speaking of a world in which people lived on the frontier, having to deal with hostile Indians and brigands, and a world in which people needed guns to provide for their families. When the constitution speaks of a 'well regulated militia,' they were speaking of a world in which there was no police force. Today's police force is the 'well regulated militia' of our time. But it is also true that we live in a country where there are about 500 million firearms and gun ownership is basically a mute point. We are stuck with this, I am afraid. And the worst is yet to come. estory

Thank you. We don't have wild Indians anymore but we have lots of brigands in my part of the country. I live in the country but there are a lot of thieves in our area. Break-ins are common, therefore the gun. I appreciate your review.

Hello Friend,
Nice piece of Non-Fiction having IMPRESSIVE phraseology, CAPTIVATING flow throughout from the very beginning up to the end, and beautifully EXPOSING the 'Gun Problem' in the US. Moreover, its root CAUSE as well as the EFFECTIVE solution!
The paragraph: "The cliché...different?" is particularly noteworthy.
BEST OF LUCK in the contest.

It is a lot like war. No-one wins. Everyone loses.
I believe it is true that 'hurt people hurt people'. There are many reasons for the hurt and confusion but one thing is certain, these are not happy people. The hurt needs to be traced back to the point of origin before any kind of healing and understanding can begin. Social media and medications are hugely involved in messing people's minds.

You state your position very well. This rant is well reasoned and well written. I don't entirely agree with you... The difference between cars and guns is that cars have a purpose other than killing, whereas, death and destruction (whether necessary or not) is pretty much the whole point of guns. Also, when people use guns to kill people, they can do much more damage, more quickly, than they could do without a gun. So maybe guns don't kill people, but people with guns kill, and the whole point of the argument is that guns are fine to own (by people) because guns without people don't kill. But I guess that would be MY rant, not yours. Your rant, as I said, is very well put, and your writing is flawless. Good job!

Thank you. That's what rants are for, to create debate. I love all the different responses I have received on this rant. The ones from other countries are very interesting. Hugs.

I agree. This is a powerful piece and a very profound one. Why should honest people who use their guns responsibly suffer for the ones that don't. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing. Have a great weekend.

I think you have written a good rant for this contest, good luck. I think it is good because you recognized the stupidity of having assault rifles sold to public, much less 18-year-old kids. Per contest rules, you should end the rant with "Now I feel better" Terry.

Hello Mystery writer a good day to you. I hope this finds you well. I enjoyed reading your rant and I have to say that I agree with most if not all of the points you made on such a complicated and controversial topic. Good job and have a good day!

I wasn't sure by the title if I would like reading this but now I am glad I did. This is well thought out and well written. You state your case with examples and comments and wrote an intelligent rant. I wish all rants were this easy and enjoyable to read. The artwork by Seshadri is amazing! I agree with your premise that automatic weapons should not be sold to the public. After all, who needs them to hunt? But changing one thing somehow changes everything is the argument of the gun lobby. So, who knows, is right!
Thanks for sharing and for letting me share.

Thank you. It is a debatable subject, but it seems all they do is debate it and nothing else. Hugs

Yes. It always stalls in the Senate!
The supreme court has sided with the NRA. I read that somewhere yesterday.
Have a good day, and stay safe!

As an outsider, I, too, am at a loss to understand why private citizens should ever need to possess assault guns or semiautomatic weapons with high-capacity magazines. I grew up in England in the immediate post-war years when policemen were only armed with truncheons, which they rarely if ever used. How times have changed.
