Oh, I can relate. Now, I'm glad Betsy had an alliance.in her mother. Without her the date would have never come off. This is a great entry, Beth. All the best of luck. Ulla:)))

Thank you Ulla. Yep, Moms are more likely to understand and act as a go between the daughter and the overprotective daughter.

First dates are always awkward. I remember going to pick my first wife up for our first date. Her father was sitting on the porch with a shotgun lying across his lap. After saying hello, sir, he never moved or said a word. So, I pushed back my suit coat to show the 45 in the holster on my side. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the review and the funny comments. Did that really happen? I'm not sure I would have gone out with you if I knew you were packing. Lol You were a brave one to push your jacket back but it must have worked. Did you have a shotgun wedding?

Actually, it did happen. But I was tipped off about what he was going to do. So, I was ready for him. We both laughed about it up until a few years ago when he passed away. And no, I'm not the gun packing type. :-)

Being a dad of daughters I can understand how George feels, it fascinates me how sensible mums are, and how mistrusting, I guess because we remember how we were when we were.young, fortunately my daughters were both smarter than me. Beautifully written script Beth, this could have been my household, blessings Roy,
Typo : she's not a(n) idiot, 2: he wrote her (a) long letter.

Thank you Roy. So you were a typical dad. I think moms understand how their daughters feel. I appreciate the review. Thanks for pointing out the spags.

It's a good thing they got rid of the father. He'll have a stroke when he learns the age of this young man. Clever of the mother, but it might have been the wrong thing in the long run.

Thank you for a great review. Actually this story was based on my own experience, and he was actually 26 and I was 17. Dad would have freaked out. We got married two years later and had 61 years together.

LOL I didn't have any such problems with my Dad, Beth. With two older sisters he had already made all the mistakes a father could make when it came to daughters and dating. LOL
I was able to date the summer I was 16. Mom and Dad learned to ask God to watch over me. LOL Well done. Nancy:)

Thank you Nancy, Since I was an only child I didn't have the sister to be the sacrificial lambs to break my dad it. I think if let him decide, I might have never gone out on a date. LOL

You have painted the common family dynamic surrounding a young daughter's first date--daughter nervous, father over-protective and worried, and supportive mom orchestrating a work-around the dad's concerns. You captured it so well it made me chuckle with recognition.

Thank you Ted. I really appreciate your review and comments. Back when I was dating I thought I had the only overprotective dad but I guess I wasn't alone after all. LOL

I bet this is a familiar scene for many people. Those protective fathers - nobody is ever good enough for their daughters! This was charming all the way through, with plausible, natural dialogue and some great characterisation.

Thank you Mike. I guess many dads are like that. My husband wasn't one of them but my father was. I enjoyed you comments.

I liked this script. Having grown up in the 50s, I thought the dialog sounded realistic. The father reminds me of my own who always found reasons not to let my sister date. The other is more sensitive and we instantly like her. Fun to read.

Thank you Rod, I'm glad you liked. It is only the second script I've attempted this year. I guess dads are pretty much the same everywhere.
