This is a complicated one, Beth, because of all the misinformation added to other trees. You did a good job of sorting it out. Did you know there is a place on Ancestry where you can report errors you find? I can't recall just where without going in to look, but I think it's somewhere when you're on a particular profile.

Just a couple of little spags: "If the men where(were) not killed in one of many wars..."
"American Revelation (Revolution?)

Thank you for reviewing this. I appreciate the comment and for finding the spags. Sometime the spell checker comes up with the wrong word. No I did not know there was a place to report errors. I will definitely be looking for it.

You're very welcome, Beth. Yes, you have to pay attention to what the spell checker does, for sure. As for the error reporter, I now recall that it's when you are looking at a record, you can report the error. They can't do anything about the errors on other trees, but that's a start.

Nice writing. Good story.
Yes, times are bad, and were probably worse. It is important beyond measure to teach the truth to our children - whoever feelings it hurts.
Best wishes.

Thank you Wayne, I appreciate the review and the comments. We can change the past and I don't think we should. Hopefully some may learn from it and not repeat it.

I'm really impressed by how far you have followed your ancestry and how skillfully you have penned your findings. Even though I don't find time to review all of them, I do read the posts. Interesting about the poor handwriting of census takers and the mistakes that cropped up in your research. I get tempted to trace my own roots. Maybe you will do a post on how to go about this and how much it costs.

First you have you DNA done. You get in touch with Ancestry.com if you go the route I did. Sometime they put on specials. A couple of people told me, I've inspired them to start doing theirs. Start a family tree with everything you already know. Ancestry will give you a while for free with allowing them to do the DNA. I think they have the information on everyone on everyone that has ever lived. The Mormons are required to do genealogy, and they don't just stop with their own families.

Thanks for the info. Where do you go to get you DNA done?

There are several places but I like Ancestry. com. Go on their site and buy the kit. You will have spit in a tube and send it back and they will process it. If you could order one today before midnight, you could save $40. They have father's day sale.

First of all, kudos to you for the great researching despite the incorrect census information! It's good your found the correct "Dearing" and traced the name back to England!

Questions/Comments about the last paragraph:
Did you mean that 1,300 Whites and three times that many Blacks were killed by lynching because of being Tory sympathizers?

The Earliest Dearing (earliest)
During the 19th and 20th century, (18th and 19th centuries?) If this referred to the Tories of the Revolutionary War time period...?

Thank you Helen for the review and comments. I guess I didn't make what I was saying clear. I don't how many Tories were actually hung but when I was reading about lynching. The statistics given were from the latter half of the 19th century and throughout the 20th century. I suppose most of it was during the Civil war and throughout the 20th century. It gave the number of whites and the number of blacks lynched during that time period and didn't include those hung by the earlier lynch mobs. Other sites have differing statistics. I was surprised that so many white were lynched. I knew the number was high for blacks. I'll try to make it clearer.
Beth (On one of my family lines there was a Tory, and he was sentenced to hang. He escaped and changed his name pretending to French.)

Another fine piece of investigative work into your ancestry, this time on your mother's side. I particularly found fascinating your research on Lynch and the relationship to the word lynch and Lynchburg.

I guess a bloody history seals a nation's fate, in general terms, I think most countries have been built on a foundation of blood, I remember Ronald Reagan had a broken curse lifted on presidents that had hit them from Abraham Lincoln (elected 1860) onward to Reagan by Christians, cursed by the Indians who put on presidents elected on the 20th year dying in office, everyone had, fantastic post Beth, blessings Roy
Typo : During the American (revelation) revolution?

Yes, I guess all countries have some darkness and blood in their history. I noticed when reading about the Dearing in England that a number of them went to Australia. I'm not sure why they were leaving England.

They may have suffered persecution, or liked new beginnings.

Again, thank you for sharing this with us. Your posts caused me to get back into genealogy and I'm enjoying it. Yes, times were bad back then. Unfortunately, I feel we are headed in that direction.

I will say It has kept me from knowing exactly who Simeon's father really is. (lower case 'i' on 'it')
