Memory is a fickle beast, that it is. It can dredge up our worst moments when we don't want them and can elude us as we get older. Thank you for sharing this piece. It was wonderfully written.

Fickle memory! It's so true that the greatest moments of our lives can vanish as we remember some awful moments that need not arise ever again... but then they pop up again and we have to deal with that memory once more. Great job writing this.

I think we cultivate selective memory when we age and remember those things that please us the most. The things that matter in our life are at the forefront of our minds, much enjoyed. You touched a nerve here with your clever words, love Dolly x

"My Memory," a free verse poem by Sanku, deals with the reality that not only is memory unreliable, it sometimes works best to remind us of the worst. Sometimes irony is the core of existence!
The poem has some good lines: "She [memory] parades to a painful beat.."; "How fickle and false is memory...". I think these lines could've been illuminated by humor or drama; yes, it would make the poem longer, but other lines could be shortened to make room. Instead of "I fooled myself they were mine to dig up" could be 'I thought they were mine to mine - ha!
I often have the impression that writers don't mess around with their work enough; if I'm wrong, I apologize.

Nothing like that ,I always think about suggestions and often rework if I feel it right .I will read my poem again and see if I can instil humour. Unfortunately my memories made me sad...

Sadness is the natural state of a reflective human. We have many tricks to preoccupy us, and the things that best distract us are our truest religion. All the best, Frank

I know exactly what you mean. I don't know why we seem to have the memories we'd rather forget come through stronger than the ones we want to remember. This is a lovely poem describing just that. Well done, Sanku. Warm hugs, Sandra xxx

Excellent post about memories. We all have them some of us would rather forget. Nice presentation but the black font over dark orange is hard to read. I would change font to white, or background color to a light shade.

This is so true!! Memory is like that. The facts that we need to access quickly like numbers and names can elude us. But the emotionally charged memories that hurt can erupt at just the most unwelcomed times. Beautifully written, Santha!

Thank you very much.Once I forgot to hand over some money my friend had given me to pass on to her aunt. The entire thing was totally blanked out in my brain! it was terribly embarrassing when later she called me to check ...Thanks again Helen

This is an excellent piece. I'm with you. Some things pop into our heads, and we have no idea how they get there and wish we hadn't remembered, but it's too late by then. Great piece. Best, JohnC
