You nailed the irony of forgetting what we want to remember and vice versa. Brilliantly expressed, the sadness as to the former and distress as to the latter.

Are things all right?

Good memories should be kept. Bad ones should be thrown away. It is easier to say than to forget...
To make myself feel better, I let the past be gone. Strangely as you said, it will come back.
The challenge is how you deal with it

Memory is a tricky thing. We forget things we would like to recall, remember things we would rather forget. But there are reasons for this. Your work is nicely stated and interesting. Evi
P.S. The artwork from cleo85 is great.

Thank you very much for the encouraging review.

Some memories can be beautiful and a great blessing- some not so much. I can relate to the intermittent memories and recollections. Funny how that works as we get older.
Excellent artwork to enhance your message.
Well done.
Blessings

Yes, it is ironical, that the worst events are those we want to forget and can't, but struggle to remember the good times. You have captured this conundrum very well. I too struggle within its clutches.

Thank you very much for your empathy and kind words.

You point out in your well written poem one of the cruelties of living long enough to have a store of memories, yet we are plagued by forgetting the good ones and remembering the bad ones. So unkind.
I struggle within its clutches.. (maybe delete one of the full stops or add another one to make 3.)

Most of us can relate to your words. We struggle with memory yet often memories arise that are uncomfortable. Excellent free verse form that vividly describes part of the human experience.

very powerful poem about memory and aging. Being 66 I can relate. Often times I recall something from decades ago but struggle to remember what I did yesterday. Keeping a daily journal since I turned 40 really helps in keeping memories intact.

Memories can be a blissful blessing or things of torture; as you say, we can't just summon the ones we like best. Your poem is very moving and descriptive. Your personification of memory is excellent.

Thank you very much for the encouraging review.
Comment from Gloria ....
This is a fine flowing poem, with a tone somewhat astonished by the cheek of unpleasant memories flaunting around when least wanted, and those that are functional at the very least hide out.
We can tend to make the mistake of thinking this way, which is what makes this poem a delight.
Very well done. :))
