Your poem is very well written describing the process of shearing the sheep. It looks like a very hard job. You have given us a great look into the industry in Australia and how it is dwindling.

The objective correlative of your work reminisces an Australia, where sheep and cattle are on the wane.
The work highlights the burgeoning subscription fur sheared from Australian sheep in the remote past and how fake furs from other lands are gradually diminishing the high esteem Australians accorded the fur from their sheep.
The work earns its texture through its effective use of imagery.
Excellent work. Bravo.

Hello Lloyd, Thanks for reading. Glad you enjoyed. Sheep have wool not fur. Most of the wool goes overseas. To buy a wool garment is very expensive. Cheers, K.

Trying hard to get back into the reviewing rhythm, Kay. This is an excellent poetic posting sharing of a bit of Australia's history and the sadness of the present day decline in areas such as the availability of its wool supplies. Your quatrain verses offer strong imagery about the actual shearing process. This is both informative and interesting all the way through.

Thank you wombat. We can't afford to eat lamb. The price of meat is scandalous. Yes, the RSPCA has been called out to many a sheep not shorn. Those owners should walk around in a fleece in summer. Love, Kace xx

Hello Melissa, America has shearers too. There is no other way to remove a fleece except by hand. It is a dying industry, too expensive. We send a lot overseas and we cop the Chinese rubbish, or Indian cotton. Love, Kay xx

great imagery, terrific rhyming and easy flow. Very entertaining and informative. The men and sheep have had such trying, painful times, it's sad to hear that they might be forgotten. Great story that came from the heart. thxs for sharing

Sheep are quite a part of Australia's history as seen in your words. Excellent free verse form that captures the shearing and the impact of high prices. It seems like inflation on certain products is all over the world.

Hello Elaine, Thank you for reading, glad you enjoyed. Our best meat goes overseas, America gets the meat we can't afford. It's crazy the prices, 4 fatty chops for $18. Think I'm becoming a vegetarian. Eat lots of fish. I hope you are improving day by day and know I am thinking of you. Love, Kay xx

Your poem was well written with great details, Aussie.
The flow was smooth, the rhymes worked well, and the
message was clear. Your words placed readers there in
the shearing process. I thought the shearing was done
after the weather warmed, not in the freezing weather.
Thanks for the history lesson, Jan

Hi Jan, Thanks so much for reading. Sheep drop their young in spring, that is why it is called spring lamb. K xx

I really liked the picture, Kay of the shearer and the sheep. I remember from my childhood days that Australia was definitely built on the sheep's back. The trouble that the world has gone through. Your words definitely showed the woe that has befallen the world. Nice rhyme pattern. Very well done and greatly enjoyed.

This is an excellent poem giving a lot of history and written in an accessible style of rhyming AABB. Trade and industry has changed to be dominated by China. We have the same problem here in New Zealand.

When I was in NZ I bought a T shirt that said there are seven million sheep and three million people. I guess things have changed. Fancy having to pay $18 Kg for 4 second class chops. Life goes on. Love, Kay xx
-
I can't afford chops. You made me curious about how many sheep are in NZ now. Our human population is around 5 million, and the Internet says this about sheep:
For many, sheep symbolise New Zealand as a nation. The sheep population peaked at just over 70 million in 1982. By 2020 numbers had dropped to 26 million, after profits declined compared to other types of farming, notably dairying.
-
Well, that was a long time ago. I visited both islands in '85. Maybe the T Shirts were made in China...Hee, Hee.
