Wow, I know it's too late for the contest but for me your story it's so touching. And you were lucky to have him in your life for a good amount of time when it mattered the most. My dad passed away at 70 waiting for me to take him to the sea. I still feel incomplete. I wish you all the best my dear friend you have an angel heart.

Thank you for your lovely comments. That is sad about your dad... far too young to die. I can understand your feeling incomplete. Same for me missing my dad.

This is such a special story! You brought me many times to my mother's dying days with pancreatic cancer, as you spoke of his frail body and the possibility of him not leaving because he felt he was still needed by you. After we cut off all water and food through her tube, the Dr said it would be hours to a couple days, that lasted three weeks. Once she woke up and said, Debi feed me, I'm hungry.
I thought I would surely die first from the heartache I felt. So finally I laid in her bed with her 60 lb body and told her that I loved her so much that I knew it was God's will for us to see each other next in Heaven, and also gave her permission to go.
I didn't mean to make this at all about my experience, but wanted you to know that someone understood. He sounded like a remarkable man and bless you for the loving daughter you were, as the apple didn't fall far from the tree. What a truly beautiful story of the love you obviously had for each other!

This is wonderfully written and touched my heart deeply. You and your father were lucky to have each other, especially in his last days.
I was so moved by your story that I reflected on my mother and how I wished I had said my final goodbye to her before she passed on. She was and is the love of my life! She still visits me in my dreams at night and I love it when I get to talk to her once again to say I love you. One time she actually wrapped her arms around me while I was at my computer after she had passed and it was so comforting!
I am so glad you had that time together with your father and you were able to tell him that you would be fine and gave him permission to die. This is an uplifting piece and I am so glad I read it!
Thanks for sharing and for letting me share!

It sounds like you were Mummy's dear boy just like I was Daddy's dear girl. We are lucky to have known such love. Her visits to you in dreams, and her wrapping her arms around you show a strong connection. Thank you for sharing such a personal story, Jesse, and I am so pleased you enjoyed reading mine. xx

This was a beautiful account of deep mutual love, caring and compassion, a very rich account of the circle of life. You may have been adopted but what a wonderful experience of being loved you enjoyed and were blessed by, and your ongoing love and care for your father would have made his life complete. Some birth fathers do not offer such pure love as yours did, and it was wonderful that you were able to enrich his sunset years with that same love. This is a winner in my eyes. Best wishes.

This is heartwarming and sad. It is loving, sweet, and caring. The bond between you and your dad is so evident even in his illness.
I have to give both you and your dad six stars for your devotion to each other.
Best wishes in the contest.

This was a great story. One filled with devotion and love for your father. You are a great person. There are not many people who would do this. Many people need to read this story and think about what you did for your father. Thank you for sharing this great story. Have a great day.

I saw something like this with my older sister. They said she was brain-dead and couldn't hear or understand any of us. Her husband asked her to wiggle her toes if she could hear him, and she did. The doctors were flabbergasted. It goes to show doctors are not always right. I'm glad you had that last conversation with your dad. I'm willing to bet he heard you.

Thanks for that personal story about your sister.
I'm sure my father heard me.

This was really a special story. First, your father moved to be with you, which was great. Then you got to say goodbye, which is something not everyone gets to do. Thank you for sharing. Best wishes to you.
