Hi Debra,
This one hits home with me. I have a precious granddaughter who loves to see me. Her name is Isla. Her Mom & Dad, Leslie & Luke (Luke is our youngest son), think she's autistic. But I play with her whenever we go there, or she comes here. I get right down there on the floor with her. When she grabs my finger, I get up and go with her. "What's she going to show me now?"
She loves Cocomelon. And she has all the characters... Grandpa & Grandma, JJ, and JJ's mother and father, brother and sister. Perhaps, she'll show me a new book, or puzzle.
But this past week, they've been dealing with Covid. Poor little Isla has turned into a monster. She doesn't feel well, sore throat and fever. (You know all about that. Your family went through it twice!) She wouldn't eat or drink. So they had to take her to the hospital on Thursday, blood tests and hooked up to an IV for 3 hours. We can't go over and help out. My wife's health is not good, and she has lung issues as well. If she ever caught Covid, it might be the end of her. So we're helpless, except to take over whatever groceries they need and leave them on the doorstep. Yesterday, we took them Starbucks coffees and doughnuts. The Timbits were a big hit with Isla. They were glad to see her eat something. It's a shame. Today is their 11th wedding anniversary, and we were going to mind Isla so Leslie & Luke could go down to Saint Andrews By-The-Sea for the day. But that will have to wait now.
Your poem... the moments I spend with Isla are priceless. It's joy for me. It's relief for Leslie and Luke. She loves the attention I give her. But I don't experience the tantrums that her parents do. Sometimes she'll scratch and kick. I've only seen her "fly off the handle" a couple of times, and it doesn't last long. But she's been bad with this Covid going on.
I love your last line,
"grandpa scoops jackpot"
It's a reward for me whenever I see her.
I noticed you won the contest! Congratulations!!!
I'm sure, in your job at school, you've seen autistic kids in action. So you know what Leslie and Luke deal with. It isn't easy.
You haven't written anything since mid-June. I hope you're just on vacation with your family. Is everything okay? You aren't leaving Fanstory, are you?
Hugs,
Kimbob

    Hello Kimbob :)
Thanks so much for the review and for telling me all about Isla, she sounds wonderful... I hope your family recover from covid asap and are able to have a belated anniversary celebration.
I haven't been on site for a while, its true... no intention to leave, just life is kinda hectic at the moment. Hopefully I'll get more chance to write and review in a couple of weeks when we break up for the summer holidays.
Take care, be in touch again soon :) Deb x

I'm so glad to hear you aren't giving up on Fanstory. And, that you or your family aren't ill.
Kids here end their school year during the last week of June. They don't go back to school until around September 6th or 7th. A nice holiday for them. Not so much for the parents.
Have a great summer vacation! I hope you get to go somewhere special. If you do, write a poem about it... okay? Have you ever been to Doc Martin's stomping ground? ...Port Wenn? (Port Isaac). I'd love to go there!
    Big Hugs!
    your writing pal,
    Kimbob

cute senryu, Debra, and an adorable coordinating picture. Look at grandpa's face - if that isn't the cutest thing.
That a great picture of you, by the way.
Congratulations for your first place! muy bueno!

The kid will realise when she is older that she hit the jackpot too, having a grandpa to spend time with. These relationships are so valuable - 'priceless' indeed.

Great response to the prompt. I liked the last line: grandpa scoops jackpot. The phrase creates a vivid and loving image that lingers in the mind. Great job.

This reminds me of playing card games with my grandfather. You really told a sweet, fun story in these few lines. Thank you for sharing this here, and best wishes to you.
