I loved ..and still do love .. that song. I heard that backstory with the polio and the dancing spouse, but I'm not sure where. Very pleasant read, with a couple of well-placed smile-at-oneself pieces of humor. Those -- that you do so well- - make the story feel more like a personal 'conversation' with the writer. Well done. Be sure to give your muse some extra attention -- he/she has been working overtime lately with the result of you winning some contests, placing in others and just all around good writing. ann

Great story. Well written. I didn't want it to end. Encore!
That was, indeed, a great song.
I enjoy learning the background to the songs. A video I saw recently of Paul Simon's 'Like a Bridge Over Troubled Water' - amazing!
Best wishes.

I enjoyed this story that included YOUR history with piano and guitar, as well as the history of Doc Pomus and his song, "Save the Last Dance for Me." The story has meaning to me because at age ten, my mother bought a piano and I began lessons and loved it. Thanks for sharing a little piece of your life and the history of a great song writer.

Thank you, my parents also bought a piano and then got us with a piano teacher. It took with my brother, and everyone enjoyed his playing. Terry/

Interesting. I never knew the Drifter's lead singer was Ben E. King. I have a dozen Drifter 45's out of a collection I hold today of 1400. God only knows where they'll be in ten years when I'll be gone most likely.

Wow, 1400! Ben was one of the lead singers they had several. Tom, thanks for reading. Terry.

I like to believe I would be a DJ one day. Had a brief spot on WPCC between my jr and sr years of college. Was a sock hop constituent following Jerry Blavat of Philly.

I'm probably gonna be the first Fanstorian to Google search your video. It was worth the search. There is a little Bob Dylan in your voice before he grew up and tried to find his vibrato. This is a good article, my friend. I am regularly amazed by your range of interests.

That is a great story, Terry. It plucks at the heartstrings when you talk about Doc Pomus's situation. Thanks for this educational piece. I always wanted to play the guitar, but that talent went to my brother. C, F, and G7 was about as far as I got .

Paul, thank you for the six stars!! And your review! C and G and G7 were okay for me but F gave me trouble. Terry.

You're so brave to post on YouTube! You playing is good and you're right you don't need more than a few chords for many C&W and rock and folk songs. And you have a much better voice than Bob Dylan whose songs I like but the Byrds did a much better version of Tambourine Man. Betcha now, you'll get a lot more Likes on your video now.
Thank you for the musical history, too. Now I have a much greater appreciation for Save the Last Dance for Me!!
Typo: how to play eight cords pretty well. (chords)

I would have loved to learn the piano, but my parents couldn't afford it. So I would sit in a little room listening to my friend have her lessons, and listen to her gripe about it all the way home. She hated it. I wish we could have secretly swapped. It's a shame that some really good musicians never make it to the big time. Most only get to that position because they were in the right place at the right time. I'm glad you took it up again. I enjoyed reading your peice, it brought me back loads of memories. :)) Sandra xx

Thank you so much for the info on Doc Pomus. I am a collector of trivia like this. This is also important information for me as I am a huge fan of the drifters. Back in the day when I had a decent voice and could sing fairly well, I used to sing a lot of the drifter's songs and later songs that Ben E. King sang as a solo artist. I used to write song lyrics, but I never learned how to play any kind of music instrument so i did not meet with success. I turned most of my lyrics into poems, and that is how I wound up here.

Hi Terry, I just knew you would have something interesting to post and that is why I Fanned you. I enjoyed this story.
Kris Kristofferson was my favorite song writer for quite a few years. I have always loved music from Big Band Music to Pop then to Country Western. Interesting essay, well done. Nancy:)
