Okay, so I literally laughed out loud while reading this:-). I always enjoy the witty way you tell many of your stories - it reminds me of how I tell my own tales, so I appreciate it. Your YouTube quip was the best.

Another interesting read that I learned something from. Keep trying new things.

Terry,
This is such a great story full of interesting facts and I really enjoy your sense of humor. Even if you don't rate your own singing and guitar playing at the top, I think your writing is right up there - a man of many talents - so keep at it.

Hello Terry,
A very interesting piece which manages to combine the facts of your life, with some facts from the 'time' of your life. You slipped seamlessly from one to the other. That was well done.
The backstory on the lyrics - and your idea of its deeper, more personal significance to the writer of the lyrics - is very interesting, and poignant. I'll not hear the song again without this in mind, I am sure.
An apparently simple tale, simply written, but with a hidden depth on both counts.
I enjoyed this - thank you.
I wish you well with your continued writing.
cheers
phill

This is an interesting story. I took piano lessons until my parents found out my teacher wasn't teaching piano, she was having me clean her house. Her excuse was that working as a maid was probably the only thing I could do when I grew up. Needless to say, no music lessons ever worked. I could sing every word to last dance for years. It's fun to know where it came from and that Doc was such a prolific writer.

What an interesting post, Terry. I enjoyed reading it.
I loved learning the history you gave readers--I didn't
know any of it. I like how you also told about your foray into
music in a humorous way. I could imagine everything
you wrote as I read. The lines about Save the Last Dance
for Me were great.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

This was like two stories in one, as you led from your own musical experiences (and skills) into the background to the song and its writer. In so doing you made an interesting compilation with your usual skill.

I enjoyed reading your story about taking piano lessons as a child and the difference between you and your brother. My son and daughter both took piano lessons, but they were so different. My daughter spent hours practicing and became very proficient, but her brother had to be pushed and soon lost interest in it.

You are welcome, Terry. One may have a gift and ear for music, but it takes time and effort to perfect it.

Although singing in a rock band in the late sixties I didn't take up guitar till my forties, learning classical at first, but changing to contemporary acoustic and electric a little later, and keyboard later, but I wrote many songs, now I just write poetry. But still play and sing with a variety entertainment group, but with Covid,,,. Thanks for Sharing Terry, blessings Roy

Roy, thank you, sir, for the fine history lesson, you should write a story about some of those days. Terry.

I love the dry wit running through this. Your natural storytelling style and self-deprecating commentary made this lots of fun, and I learnt about some songwriters too! I used to read the attributions in the album notes to see who write tunes, and soon started to see the themes across different bands and singers where the same songwriters lurked. Great fun :-)

Hi Terry, thank you for taking me down memory Lane. I do recall
"Save the Last Dance for me," but I must admit that I was never on top
of who the writers were. I, too, wanted to play the piano. The Nuns gave piano lessons for fifty cents/hr but my Mom didn't have an extra fifty cents
a week. I didn't know the history of Doc Pomus. Thank you for the information. I'll have to check out your YouTube, and give it a few more
hits. Great photo choice. A pleasure to read. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer
